More aggressive pad? Or more aggressive compound?

I'm trying to get water spots off the hood of my Ram. I just tried Pinnacle Swirl Remover, but it didn't get the job done after several passes. I used an orange pad. My question is, should I go with a more aggressive pad or compound or both?

What kind of polisher are you using? What kind of orange pad? LC Flat Foam? Or?
What products do you have available?

Need to provide more details...

Sorry guys. I am brand new to this. The pad is from Lake Country, and I am using the Porter Cable, the latest edition. I will have to purchase any additional product and pads based upon you guy's recommendations.

I'd consider increasing the aggressiveness of you polish, as the orange pad is already somewhat aggressive. You also have the option of using a smaller pad.

First, if your not on speed 6 with 15 lbs of downward pressure, try that. If that still does not cut it, I'd go with a 5" backing plate (better at cutting and polishing than the 6") and some microfiber pads (cuts better than foam), and if that doesn't work, get a more aggressive compound.

I am using speed 6. If I push down to hard the plate stops spinning. It needs to be spinning right?

How "bad" is it to use 6" pads? Since the backing original backing plate fits them very well...... I hope I didn't waste money on my 6" pads.

You could cut them to fit a 5" bp. I made the switch from 6" to 5" based on other's recommendations a while ago. I noticed a significant difference.

How come he didn't say whether he's using 5" or 6" pads? Smh. Lol.

I dont have a PC. I wouldve thought it came with a 5" backing plate. Ok good luck.

6" pads can work. They just take longer because they distribute the work over a larger area than smaller pads. When you move to the sides of the truck, that aren't covered in water spots, they could work well. A ram is a lot of paint to polish.

Since I'm a visual person, here's Mike P saying how to polish a car with a PC. It's a 3 part installment.

Here's a write up about water spots from Mike.

Lastly, do you have before and after polishing pictures of the water spots? I'm afraid some can be so severe you have to live with them.
