This week's project was a repeat customer. We had worked on this vehicle 2 years ago when it needed an extensive correction (click here to see the previous write up). The owner wanted to have the car cleaned up again and to have a more durable layer of protection applied. Upon initial inspection we discovered severe overspray on the hood and right fender which required a considerable amount of cutting to remove. The rest of the car received a one step correction process to remove lighter swirls and enhance the gloss. The car was then topped with Americana Car Care's Americoat acrylic paint coating for durable protection and gloss.

Process
Tires: Omni Clean
Wheels: Sonax Full Effect with variety of brushes and tools
Wash: ONR
Decontaminate: Medium Speedy Prep Towel with Nanoskin Glide as Lube
Cutting: Meguiar's M101 on Meguiar's MF Cutting Pads via Rupes LHR21ES & LHR75E
Polishing: Meguiar's M205 on White LC Polishing Pads via Rupes LHR21ES & LHR75E
Surface Prep: CarPro Eraser
Paint Protection: Americoat (cured with IR lamps)
Wheel Sealant: CarPro HydrO2
Tire Dressing: CarPro PERL
Exhaust Tips: CG Metal Wax
Glass: Meguiar's D120

The wheels & tires were cleaned and sealed. The paint was then completely washed and decontaminated

Some serious correction was needed on the hood to remove some severe overspray along with swirls and scratches.

Here you can see how dull the finish looked due to the overspray

After compounding we were beginning to create a much clearer reflection. This would later be further refined with a finishing polish

Spent 3 hours on the hood alone, and it finally looked as good as it should.

After the coating was cured with our infrared lamp, we were able to get some great pics.

Thanks everyone!

Have some more Chevy love coming up, too!

Where is the snow Zach?? Now that car looks PROPER!!

So this car has been compounded twice? oooookkkk.

Yep... Paint readings are very healthy on this car (and all Camaro's I've seen). Not concerned at all with what we have done in the last 2 appointments. Should be just fine for the long haul though I did explain the risks of continued heavy correction throughout he life of the car.

If I ever decide to have my 1999 Camaro SS repainted, I want a sh*t ton of clear put on it...has anyone here ever had a repaint and requested additional clear?

That correction looks awesome.

I believe it is somewhat common... especially for those of us who know we want to sand down the peel and have plenty of room for future corrections. I think it is important to apply in thin coats though... I'm no painting expert at all, but I think there can be adverse effects to spraying thick coats of clear.

That correction looks awesome.
