More headlight restorations

Always a pleasure to see top quality headlight restoration work, I highly recommend anybody who lives in Oklohoma City to use only your service (as I havn't seen others work in Oklohoma).
Your restored headlights look so transparent that if you would finish with 2K Clear Coat you would make them look less clear, I think even air when it was not polluted had less exactness, your headlights have a clarity of Purity Vodka I drink tonight 1 shot for your success.

You should post a video with your technique!

Have some questions:
  • What's your mobile setup?
  • For headlights with deep scratches, do you sand them until they are gone?
  • How do you deal with headlights that have cracks on them?

Set up is GG6 with a 3" BP, sanding discs, wet/dry through 3k grit, WG polishes and yellow/orange pads.

Deep scratches can be minimized but not worth my time to try an remove them. Customers completely understand before I start.

Cracks cannot be fixed at all. If there's no sharp corners that might catch the pad, then I go ahead and do them.

As far as the video, I'm not very computer savvy nor very photogenic. Maybe later on I will put something on Youtube.

So you do all the sanding by hand? What kind of pad do you like for polishing out the sanding marks?
Your results are top notch.👏🏼

Thank you! No, I have the GG6 do most of the dirty work. For polishing, yellow pad with Uber compound or TSR can do fine depending on how fine you wetsand.

Awesome work there

Thanks!

I'm using a non-AG brand of discs due to cost. PM me if you want to know as I'm not sure the forum rules allow mentioning outside company names.

Some really tough or larger lights headlights can take 3-6 discs to break down the factory coating. 1-2 discs for subsequent grits.

Strictly extension cords for power since most I do most jobs at the customer's home.

Thank you. Yes, Uber and TSR finish very nicely in most cases. The OL fills in very, very faint scratches (if they were too deep to remove but able to be minimized).

Yes, I do get quite a few referrals. Durability is my selling point. I'd rather charge more and give them long-lasting results versus waxing their headlights for $20 like they do at the tunnel washes. Since that is what most people are used to seeing, a few people think it's ridiculous for such a simple task. It's the same mindset of thinking a car wash is a "detail". That's why it's very important to educate them on what they're paying for.

Phenomenal work! You have truly mastered that craft.

Some from the past couple of weeks. The two Dodge Rams are a repeat customer from doing his Range Rover last year (but not the one posted above).

What coat did you use in your customer that the protection failed after one year? Also, Did he maintained as you normally suggest them?

Quick question would a paint prep product be fine to use prior to coating such as eraser, optimum paint prep or Wolfgang and what not?

Are you talking about the Range Rover customer from last year?

Yeah :)

EDIT: but I think I didn't understand well, did you mean they are returning customers because the protection you used didn't last? or they came back to do another headlights? not the one you previously restored.

I think you misunderstood me. I did his Range Rover last year (personal SUV). He was happy with the results so he had me do two of his company trucks recently. Just a repeat customer, not a repeat job. :)

Hahaha just what I thought, sorry for the confusion. Amazing works as always :).

Are you using DLux now? or did you keep using Opti-Lens?

I have been using the recommended IPA but I know some coatings recommend using their own prep formula. I'm sure it would be fine as long as it cleans and promotes bonding.

Still using OL. I will pair it up against Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light once AG starts stocking it.

This customer was impressed with an older Lexus I did for him so he called me back to do a 2nd and 3rd car...

This is actually the older Lexus posing with some of the many curious horses on his property. Fortunately, no MF towels managed to disappear that day.

A Porsche Cayenne belonging to a med student...

This customer had one headlight replaced due to a car accident and wanted the other side cleaned up.

Clear headlights are happy headlights...

A very close match....

A nice 370z carelessly damaged by someone with sandpaper. Owner thinks it was his "detailer". I would be furious had they done that to my vehicle. Fortunately they did not need as much work as I had initially thought.

I also recommended a quick compound/polish on the back lenses.

This is a Volvo XC90 for a used Volvo dealer that has sent me A LOT of business.

Today's 08 Corolla I knocked out in just over an hour. Customer was extremely satisfied and said they turned out better than expected.

These are kind of my bragging rights. Aftermarket lenses which took about twice as long because the factory coating was made from some extraterrestrial element with flakes of marble and a hint titanium. Had to fire missiles from the start to get things going in my favor. They still have a moderate amount of crazing but now have original light output and look 1000x better than before I arrived.

Impressive work as always g35_coupe! How many headlights do you restore weekly?
