Mothers brand clay bar, great, ok or eh?

I'm pretty sure that no one "makes" their own clay, even under license. Auto Magic or Auto Wax has enforced their patent strongly and they always win. They've stopped tons of importers of clay made elsewhere.

I'm not sure if there is any company out there that licenses the patent and makes their own, because they still have to make it according to Auto Magic specs. It's easier to just buy and label it differently.

Please anyone feel free to dispute me, especially someone who is part of a company that sells clay.

Yeah, we don't want any of that imported clay. You do know that ClayMagic is made in Japan? Because the guy who invented it and patented it is Japanese. He assigned the US patent rights to AutoMagic. It doesn't matter where the clay is made, you can make all the clay you want to here in the US, you just can't SELL it here, or anywhere you don't have the patent rights, without permission/license fee etc. And you don't have to make it to "Auto Magic specs", why would they care? It's not going to say ClayMagic on it. Arguably the reason they took out Erazer and the others is because those elastic clays were better than plastic ClayMagic, which is why everyone wishes they could buy elastic Riccardo clay here. Erazer tried to claim that their clay was different and didn't infringe the patent, but the patent is well written, it's broad, it has over 60 claims IIRC, including clay with every imaginable property.

I have 1 box that had the 2 80g bars, the towel and showtime, the other box has 1 80g bar, the showtime and the 4oz cleaner wax.

Didn't really notice the difference as I got them at the same time on AAP clearance, would have rather had an extra clay and towel than the 4oz wax! Looking at them the one says quite clearly it had 2 bars, oops.

The newer kits have 2 clay bars & no wax. There was some discussion about it on Waxforum on Mothers website. Seems the idea was that anyone buying clay, already has wax or wants to pick out their own. In fact there was a thread over there dedicated to what people did with their wax sample.

I was in a Walmart today and looked like someone has been going through the Mothers clay and taking out the clay.

That seems to be the trend... I've been to numerous wallys and most of the clay is gone but the rest remains....

I guess our clay is preferred by most consumers.....at least the dishonest ones.

At least you've got a sense of humor about it. Those boxes really need to be shrinkwrapped. I remember hearing on another forum that some chain took all the clay out of the boxes before they put them on the shelf, and that they only put it back in when you brought the box up to the register to buy it.

I think the Mother's kit is the best bang for the buck clay there is. Using coupons for Advance Auto, you can get it down to around $12 for a kit, even less if its on sale. For two bars, a nice towel and lube it's a great deal. Sometimes the kits come with Mother's cleaner wax, which is a TOTAL sleeper. I love the stuff, its strong cleaner and durable wax. IMO as effective as DG501.

I do find claymagic blue to be slightly more effective, but its not worth double the cost.
