Mothers Professional Line

I have used both the Mother's Professional Compound and Polish.

I liked M205 better than the Mother's Polish and Ultimate Compound better than the Mother's Compound.

The Mother's Compound was difficult to remove and had a shorter working time than Megs Ultimate Compound. I also think the UC cuts faster than the Mother's Compound.

The Mother's Polish was OK, but stains the heck out of your pads. It actually makes white pads difficult to distinguish from grey finishing pads.

You're the first person I've heard of who has mentioned a short working time. As we demo'd at DetailFest, the products have a long work time, and minimal to no dusting.

Removal has always been an easy wipe for us.

Why not give us a call and ask for Jim D in Tech Support Monday (714-891-3364)? Explain how you used it and we'll see if we can't figure out why you're getting the results you mentioned.

Which polish did you use? The foam pad polish finishes off very nice. Not all polishes or compounds are going to work the same on all paints. That is why it is recommended to do a test section to dial in your process.

Megs ultimate compound is a good product and I also use it but it is quite oily and is a consumer product designed to be used on multiple paints and conditions which also gives it a long working time. Adding UC to 105 will also give 105 a longer working time, more oils. Do an IPA wipe afterwards and you may find it didn't leave the finish as corrected as you thought it did.

UC is actually on the very aggressive scale of Meguiars compounds, look up the chart it is right there with 105 one of their most aggressive compounds. As with any compound if you over work it or don't have your pad properly primed or use enough product it can stick to the paint and be hard to get off. A simple mist with water will take it right off should this happen.

Stained pads are a pain but there are many products out there that stain pads. Wolfgang Finishing Glaze along with Menzerna 4000 or 4500 do the same.[/quote]

I have ordered and used the new Mothers APC and must say im not very impressed with it. I have been using the Megs D101 APC and D103 APC+ for the last few years and feel it is way more effective, smells better IMO, seems a lot more delicate on leather and other surfaces and IMO cleans better. I cleaned a pretty dirty F150 leather seat the other day and found myself scrubbing a lot more and still not getting the results as i did from Megs. I have used it at both 5:1 and 10:1, the dilution ratio is what sold me on it, but im gonna stick with D101.

Great results! How much was done with using the degreaser? Im sure the degreaser has alot more cleaning power. I mean the Mothers APC worked dont get me wrong, but i feel like the Megs is alot more effortless. I also noticed it doesnt really foam up as much as Megs as far as using it for wheels and wells and the lower rockers etc. Cant deny your results though.. Looks great!

I agree with everything else you said. But I was looking at the chart on autopia and both UC and Mothers Compound are both rated at an 8 while both polishes are rated at a 3. Unless I'm not looking at the right chart.

Didn't say it had a short working time...I just found that it had a shorter working time than Megs UC.

That's the way I read it also, I'm missing your point. But I think I know where your going with this. What I was saying is to not be fooled by UC being from the OTC consumer line and it not being an aggressive compound which it is and should cut fast. As far as which one cuts faster that has too many variables in it and is a topic all on its own and most times when you have two very comparable products its personal opinion.
 
I just wanted to be sure that I was reading the chart right. I have nothing bad to say about either products. I actually use both and both work great. Different situations call for different techniques and products.

The point I was trying to make is that I wanted to clarify that UC is aggressive but not as aggressive as M105 according to the chart. That's all.

Either way Mothers hit a home run with these two products.
 
Couldn't agree with you more. It would be nice if one product worked across the board.
 
I noticed a few Mother's Professional product line products at Auto-Zone today, I was tempted but I'd have no more space for more products. Lol

We don't have any pro items at AutoZone, but Meguiar's does.

105, 205, #9 come to mind as ones I've seen in some stores.

Not all stores have it, though.
 
Perhaps it was the M Tech line that was seen at autozone.
