What’s SUB COD mean?

Submarine Cod

I'm a tourguide and financial doner to the USS Cod Submarine Veterans Memorial here in Cleveland. Got married on the forward deck. Been a part of her civilian crew for 7 years this coming February. I f**king love submarines with deck guns. Naval history is my primary hobby, by a wide margin. Cars get whatever energy I have remaining. I read a lot and can't learn enough before I'm dead. Currently waste deep in the Mediterranean battle zone of WW2. Primarily the British forces deploying from Malta. I needed a break from the Pacific theater after 7 years of being stuck solely there with my studies. A change of literary scenery is welcomed.

That's her in my profile photo when we took her to drydock in Erie in the summer of '21. I was one of 7 people who got to stand under her keel for the first time in 58 years. 1963 was the last drydocking before, it shows. $1,400,000 later we looked like a brand new fleet boat ready to make Japan capitulate. Standing in drydock with her was, as I put it, "History Nerd Peak Performance." I was lucky enough to visit her in drydock 3 times. The day the water drained out, about halfway, and near completion. It was amazing. Still pinching myself.

Those are aluminum anodes to help combat fresh water corrosion. Need aluminum or magnesium for fresh water. The zinc anodes the Navy put on in 1963 were for the most part still there because they weren't doing squat in fresh water lol. The red anti-fouling coating you see was donated by Sherwin Williams Paint Company, thee only local company to assist us in such a way. The ice storms in Texas the previous winter had damaged one of their production facilities so Sherwin had to go around the nation and buy back what quantities they could from distributors to donate to us. $220,000 worth, free. So support Sherwin Williams when you can, they are very patriotic. What's so special about that coating? It was developed IN Lake Erie. So it is thee absolute perfect coating for Cod.
