My car started over heating...

Well I was driving and I see the temp light turn on followed by my temperature gauge shoot all the way up.

I wait for the light to turn green, I make a left and pull over right away in the nearest parking lot.

I then call my uncle and he says to take it to his shop so the mechanic can have a look at it. I call Triple A and have it towed over there. I am now waiting for the diagnosis. I feel like i'm at a hospital waiting for the doctor to call me in lol

My uncle pouring water to see if it was leaking and it was. The bottle has water in it btw.

Now just waiting for the mechanic to finish up
 
Maybe a fan relay? Hope its not a blown head gasket!

My guess is it's something simple. A few common things:

1. Some type of leak caused coolant to leak out and the car overheat from lack of coolant. Could be a water pump, hose, etc...

2. Some type of electrical issue causing the fan not to run. This would likely only make the car overheat in stop & go traffic - not on the highway where air is being forced through the radiator.

3. The thermostat has failed and is stuck closed not allowing the coolant to circulate.

4. If the vehicle has an external belt driven water pump, the belt may have just broken that drives the water pump. However, if other things (like the alternator or power steering) are driven by that belt, you likely would have noticed those failing first.
 
It was a cooling hose. Nothing major ended up happening. So I just have to pay for the hose and the mechanic charged me $30 :D

got to love when it just something simple and cheap.
 
Was that a lower or upper rad hose? If so, did you replace the other one as well?

my car just got new power steering fluid, 2004 car with 28,000 miles lol

Actually I am not sure. My uncle just told me to leave the car there and offered to take me out to lunch.
 
I am home now and the car is running good now. My uncle told me that we can set something up on a weekend to have his mechanic check out the rest of the car.

He did me a huge favor actually. I just called him up and he said to just bring the car down. He had his mechanic drop whatever work he was working on to help me out. Given the fact that it is Thursday, usually Thursdays and especially Fridays are crunch time, when most of the customers come and pick up their cars. For that I am very grateful that he took the time out of his normal work day and had his workers take the time out of their work day. To help me out. My family has always been like that and given the fact that we are all car guys that made it easier to get the help I was seeking.

Glad it wasn't anything major, but when I blow up the pic........I see two specs of dust on your car. What's up with that.?!?!

There is no reason on having the cleanest, shiniest car on the block if it doesn't run. Lol

The KEY word in your last post was "family". Boy how well I understand crunch days in the body industry, but family comes first.

Do make sure you have both of those hoses replaced though, along with the clamps. Wouldn't hurt to replace any heater hoses while they are at it. All these things wear at roughly the same rate, especially the radiator hoses.

Also belts are something that we often neglect to the point of failure. Funny how we'll drive a car till it leaves us on the side of the road, then curse it for doing so. :rolleyes:

I was watching on MotorWeek the other week and Pat Goss was talking about kits to replace water pumps. There is a company out there that sells the hoses, or the hoses and the pump with plastic impellers, or the hoses and pump with an upgraded metal impeller. It was a pretty cool deal in that everything was included and matched to your vehicle. Just that for the life of me I can't remember who it was! :laughing:

Thank You Tony, When having my car towed, besides the Triple A guy telling me that I am hilarious. (I seem to bring laughter and smiles to a lot of people lol) Well while it was being towed. I started thinking to myself that having a few swirls isn't such a big deal. Especially when worse things could happen. To ones car in this case.

I told my uncle that I brought the car to his shop to have it washed. That I didn't want to drive it while it was dusty because it might induce swirls haha. He just laughed

The cool thing was he was asking my opinion on some detail things. I am becoming the Detail guy in the family.

I think he might have been bribing me, with the car fixin and the lunch fixin. All these fixin's were probably so he could get his paint detail fixin from me haha kidding :buffing:

He still thinks he can "out buff" me with a Dewalt rotary, wool pad and some 3M rubbing compound. I talked to him and told him about me using my Menzerna polishes and Rupes with all these pads i.e. mf pads, jeweling pads etc... (He probably never heard of Menzerna before I came along) Well he said "I can use anything I want and in the end we'll see who buffs better "Im the MAN

I'll kindly accept the challenge, now we just need to set it up. I am actually going to go to his shop tomorrow in Riverside, CA. I'll talk to him more about our buff off. My cousin said he'll participate as well also. So when it happens it will be a showdown.

I actually met a professional photographer, I was talking to her and showing her my videos. She said she would be up to do photography for me, so that might be another journey adventure that I will be taking. She shoots more professionally, but I told her I just want between 1,000-3,000 pictures unedited, in the time lapse style and just the files and I'll take care of the rest with my photo program I use. (more on that later)
