Hey Guys,

I bought an '09 Audi S5 in black that had been run through some automatic car washes which left the typical markings in my clear coat, as well as swirls and normal wear and tear. I decided that I wanted to fix up the paint and bring it back to life so after doing some reading online here are the results. What you do you guys think?

I started with a wash, then used Meguiars clay bar. Next I did multiple passes uses a cheep $40 orbital buffer with some Megs Ultimate Compound to remove the light scratches/swirls and the car wash damage. Once that was done I applied 2 layers of Megs NXT Tech Wax as a sealant and topped it with a layer of Megs Gold Class Carnuba Plus wax. I meant to do a second layer of the carnuba wax but ran out of time.

I wasn't able to get any of the deeper scratches, that I want to try and get out some other time when I can get a nice buffer and the proper pads and a more aggressive compound.

Nice! One of my favorite cars in my favorite color!

I had a hard time with audi clear coat, my daily driver. I doubt the orbital buffer will do much with it. If you want to try to get after the deeper swirls/scratches, try picking up the harbor freight dual action polisher, lake country cyan hydrotechs, and FG400 compound.

Looks good.. nice car.

Next time, remember to take "before" photos. It really helps us appreciate the work you did to get it to look the way it does now.

I took some before pictures but they don't show any of the swirls, RIDS or wash damage so I didn't post them, but here they are. I'd say the paint was in fair condition before I started so it always looked good. (This just the car after washing, before starting work on the paint)

The last 9 seconds or so of that video reminds me of looking into a cool stream flowing in the New River Valley, and the metal flakes are like the riverstone beneath the water..
I was expecting to see a trout swim by :buffing:
Excellent results with a wax spreader...or any other tool for that matter.

Very nice. some wax spreaders dont do too terrible of a job for getting it shiny! I have a HF DA but still use my Turtle Wax 5.5" orbital to buff/ clean wax off after it hazes. I have a bunch of MF bonnets for it so why not put it to use? for what it is it has a deacent motor.
