My Ghetto Pad Washer

Thanks for the idea. I'm gonna copy this design for less than $20.:dblthumb2:

Take your Grit Guard to Lowes and test their blue buckets as they have different manufacturers. I found one that stops the GG about half way down so all I had to do was cut the openings near the bottom--no need to add anything to the GG to hold it in place.

The bottom of mine says "Letica Corp"

One suggestions for this would be to buy "THOSE" 5 gallon buckets that are too small to fit a Grit Guard, and they only drop halfway down in the bucket before diameter gets too small!

This would eliminate the time and effort drilling and zip-tying!

Don't have the gg yet. Just ordered it Saturday from AG. Thanks for the tip about Lowes.

Local Lowes has 0 buckets in their inventory. Looks like a trip to Home Depot is in my near future. Their website shows 1116 in stock. Anybody use the orange bucket for this?

Pep boys branded 5 gallon red buckets are too small for a Grit guard, so they might be perfect for this. You usually get one free if you spend $20-$25..

I hate to buy one & have it be too small, like you say. I guess I will wait until my grit guard comes in so I can take it with me to size the bucket. I'm on the west coast of Florida, so it should be here Tuesday.

Don't believe that inventory report on the web--most Lowe's have hundreds of the blue buckets sitting all over the store.

I believe the orange HD bucket is going to require some sort of tubing around the grit guard to keep it up off the bottom.

You want the bucket to be "too small" so that the GG only goes half way down without having to add anything to the edges of the GG.

Yup. No problem. I wouldn't use a gas pressure washer though.

Thanks for the response and the information.

I have a gas powered pressure washer so I don't have a lot of use for a electric one. But after seeing how easy it was to clean your pads with your setup I am going to see if I can find a good high pressure nozzle or something similar that just goes on the end of a regular hose.

Anything to improve and speed up pad cleaning is at the very least worth a few bucks and some time.

That's the beauty of a gasoline powered pressure washer!

You have plenty of power when needed, yet you have the ability to turn it down when you don't. I know I'm the minority around here but I have no use for an electric PW.

You can use any bucket. Screw some brackets where you want the GG to go. The bucket well have giant holes at the bottom. What's a couple more going to affect :-)

White ones from Wally will suffice.

The Pep Boys red buckets would work great. The GG doesn't fall all the way down in them.

No Pep Boys local & I avoid Wal Mart like the plague. I have about 30' of old hose to use part of for this. One question though, how does the pad stay put with pressurized water blasting it?

Maybe it's not clear in the video, but I put 0 thought into the bucket when I made this. What I did was filet some fuel line and wrap it around the perimeter of the Grit Guard. Then, I zip tied it in place around several locations - so the zip tie latch was not facing the outer perimeter. Then, cut the zip tie end with a razor.

With the rubber around the perimeter of the GG, it will wedge it high enough in place with most buckets. The GG doesn't move.

Pad stays put. It has nowhere to go. If you blast a pad on a Grit Guard on the ground, its initial movement will be to go to the side. It's trapped in the bucket here.

Grit guard came in today along with some other goodies. Used an affiliate here to order some mf towels people are raving about. They came in as well. Big problem, there. Website & invoice say these towels are purple. Wrong, they're pink. Not gonna use those. Sent them an email stating such, hopefully they allow me to swap for a good color.

Positive on the towel swap. They said I could swap them out for gray ones. Waiting to hear back on how they want to handle the exchange. Per thread title, got the hose cut to size & tie strapped into place. Pushed it down into the orange bucket, where it sits plenty high enough for the drainage holes to be cut. Measurements to be made because I am anal about everything. Yes, it's a curse, but I 'm ok with it.
