Hi everyone!

My name is kevin and i am from the chicago suburbs. i have a 1999 Mustang Cobra in dire need of paint help and i just picked up a 2001 Ford Taurus from my girlfriends parents with 86k miles for cheap, but it belonged to their daughter who is away at college and didnt do anything to keep it clean so the paint is terrible.

My goal is to suck in as much info and knowledge as possible from here and try things i learn on the taurus before i tackle the cobra. also, im in no rush to start work on the cobra since at this point in time it doesnt run and has no engine (long story)

also my girlfriend has a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that she wants to do some paint correction on as well.

i picked up an fariable speed rotary buffer from harbor freight on sale that i figured would be a good starting point to learn with. i used the included white foam pad that came with it and some meguiers swirl x on the trunk of the taurus and was impessed with the results from my first try....and now i am addicted....which brings me here. now i want more. lol. thanks for reading my long intro post! please go easy on me with my stupid questions! :buffing:

A rotary is actually a bad starting point to learn with because of the possibility of damage that you can inflict.

Your best bet to get into any degree of correction is to start with a random ortibal buffer like the porter cable and get a selection of pads to go along with it.

This is a very valid point if you want to get into detailing your cars I would purchase a Flex machine or a Porter Cable (PC). You will find you are getting better results with one of these machines rather than what you are using. Also would suggest picking up some quality pads rather than the one that came with it (not such high quality). I like Lake Country CCS pads.

That being said welcome to the site and the infection of detailing haha..... lots of good people and information here :welcome::welcome:

Welcome to AutogeekOnline! I would recommend using a Porter Cable 7424XP or a Flex XC3401 DA Polisher. A DA Polisher is much safer to learn with.
