My neighbor yelled at me for washing my cars too often.

I read one time on a website it takes 30 gal of water to wash a car or truck

LOL at 180 gallons. Where did he come up with that number?

Probably some green peace garbage propaganda website/blog/newsletter.I would not have been as polite as you if one of my neighbors had tried to get after me for washing my car.I'm actually not sure what would happen if an unprovoked attack were to occur while I was holding a FOAM GUN.
Detailing is my hobby/self therapy/mini excercise session,I do have a DVD player in my garage and like to play movies while detailing.I'm thinking my neighbors would be more likely to complain about the language in some of the movies; Beerfest,Hangover,Tomcats,Old School, ect

if it was me, I would turn the hose on all day and leave it running into the storm drain just to piss him off.

Aren't you actually protecting the environment by keeping your car and others out of the junkyard as yours will outlast his???

I wonder how much energy and raw materials you are saving by spending a few coins on water?

He isn't!!!

Stupid argument, I know!!

You guys are waaay too nice... I'd tell to F-off and go on with my day.

I have done that. To my neighbor that once told me that I don't know how to wash my car. This is the same clown that uses a pressure washer to wash his, while standing with the nozzle about 6" from the paint. Idiot.

Yeah. I used two 5 gallon buckets via the two bucket method. I would estimate I use maybe 25-30 gallons maximum. My car is opti coated so the water rolls off and it is never too dirty.

So I know that his math is way off on this 180 gallons thing.

I am sure the PA Dept of Environmental resources has better things to do. They are busy working on regulating the shale drilling in my area. They use a lot of water for the shale drilling process.

and the fire department is washing the truck, ambulance, ect. I'm sure after the sun sets a few personal vehicles end up in the bay for detailing. Remind him he's paying for that.............

IMO, you neighbor is way out of line. Hit him with the water cannon!

I feel so bad for you. You live next to a jackass.I used to live next to one too. He will just keep harassing you - it will not stop. This kind of person thinks he has a right to control your actions and views, and I garantee you this situation will just escalate. Because this is the kind of person that is convinced he is right and just cant let it go. Anyone in this day and age that calls someone a "fascist", is just a moron. Washing your car frequently has nothing to do with facism. I live in PA, also. I probably use 300 gallons every-time I wash my car. I do it frequently. I don't care. I pay my taxes, pay for water, and mind my own business. Unless there is a law how much water you can use, tell that guy to get lost. The only solution is one of you moves or dies. I would look into if you are breaking any local laws, because I sure he is doing just that. I would keep an eye on your vehicles and any property you store outside. This kind of person is determined to make your life miserable. If he can't do it by preventing you from washing your car(s) at will, he will likely key your vehicles or set your mail box on fire. Good luck, your going to need it.

Maybe if you was naked while you washed your car, you can use the extra water and shower in between rinsing the car and washing it. He can video tape that...wait he may like since he is watching you anyway. PS don't drop the soap.

Spray him with the hose and tell him to get off your property!

Update:

The guy lives two houses down, across the street from me. So the good news is that he is not right next to me or across from me.

My wife came home from work at 4. I immediately had her pull into the driveway. I told her that I was washing her car. She said, I thought you just washed it last week?

I told her that I was going to do it again. I washed it and made a big production out of it. My kid was spraying water in the air and laughing while we washed the wife's car. We definitely used more than 40 gallons

He was glaring at my from his front porch. He did not appear to be filming the "illegal" and "environmentally irresponsible" car washing activities. I plan on washing both of my parents vehicles tomorrow.

As far as illegal video taping goes, the law states that if you are outside in view of others from a public street or their property, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy. This includes in front of your own home. It does not extend inside the home. I know this because I have worked with some special investigation units in the insurance industry.

I will keep you updated as the weekend progresses. This is going to be a fun weekend! I may even offer to wash the other neighbors cars for free!

I would have told him to eat sh_t and have a great day.

Autogeek group car wash at your house?

Hi,

Some people have absolutely nothing to do than finding time to piss off other people.

I live in Montreal and we are one of the only place where there are no restrictions on water usage outside or inside. We do not have water meters so we pay our taxes and that is all.

I also live in a middle class district where most of the people do not wash their cars, except me of course.

I was never approached like you but I have a lot of "long faces" when people see me wash my only car once a week.

If I ever get a complaint, I will ask them to leave my property and to go f*** themselves.

Those idiots can go wash their cars at the car wash or wherever else...

Idiots...

I laughed out loud. I should get a convoy of vehicles here all weekend!

Toronto here.. We don't have strict restrictions that I know of, but smug-mobile drivers will always frown up me when I wash outside... So I had to water proof the walls of my garage and now I do my washing inside only.

What I love about Canadians (I'm not from here) is that when you tell people to "F*ck off", they do!! Hehe

Btw, your neighbor is jealous that his or her car is not as good looking

I live in a middle class suburb in Pittsburgh. My neighbor approached me today as I was washing my car. He proceeded to tell me that I was using 180 gallons of water each time I washed my car.

He told me that he was going to videotape me and submit it to the Pennsylvania department of environmental resources. He wants them to fine me. I explained to him that I use the two bucket method and only hose off to wet the car and rinse it. The hose is not running all the time. I do not use 180 gallons in a month washing my car. It is also a free country, so I can wash it daily if I want to.

He told me that I was a neo Fascist idol worshipper and walked away mumbling.

So if you see a video of a guy washing a dark gray Acura TL on the news, that is me.

too much coffee for him today?

Tell this moron to mind his own business and until he stops driving a car (of any fuel type) and heats his home by burning dung, you'll wash whatever and whenever you damn well please.

Then, go down to municipal court and take out and an order against harrassment. Pay the $35 or so bucks to get him served and then watch how that effects the tone of his glare.

Of course, if Al Gore shows up with his fleet of SUVs, you'll know this was bad advice...

You should Just get a line of people and have everybody on the street get their car cleaned. It will be like that airplane scene when everybody is lined up to injure the woman

=)

If this guy is really concerned about excessive water usage, then he better be vegan, as in not eating any animal products. It takes 5,214 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef, compare to 35 gallons for an apple.

80% of water usage goes to agriculture, and at least 80% of that goes to animal agriculture.

I eat a vegan diet, and have for 22 years. I could wash 7 cars a week and STILL use less water than this neighbor of yours with his hypocritical diet.

I'm not trying to preach to people by saying this, it is just that if this guy REALLY knew what he was talking about and was REALLY concerned about excessive water use, then he would stop eating hamburgers, and go vegan, and shut the F up when other people wash their cars.

So everything in Western PA, meet up at Arack's this weekend for a grill out and detailing session!
