My new car: 2002 Cadillac DTS

It's probably been 10 years since Bill posted a picture of that car...when they were loading it on the trailer when he moved to FL.

I didn't realize GM was doing that wrap on Caddy's...at least not in 2002.

What kind of Cadillac is it? I’m picturing a burgundy Sedan Deville, or a Fleetwood Brougham of the same color.

What do you think of them doing that on a 2002? Kinda cheap? The piano black glossy pillars on my 97’ Seville are completely different. They’re actual solid pillars, I don’t think you’d be able to just stick something over them without it looking weird because they’re thick and have rounded edges.

Really nice work and huge improvements! Color looks great on that car.

Thanks! I punched in my paint code on the website where you can buy the correct paint to match your vehicle and it turns out it’s Bronzemist not Cashmere... It’s cool, I like it. It sure makes wiping it down easy.

I hope these photos went through. This is my 1989 Coupe de Ville

Ahh it’s a Coupe Deville. Nice ride. Thx for posting the photos.
Those are some smooth riding cars. That’s got the 4.9 in it right? I used to own a 92’ Eldorado Touring Coupe with that engine.

I took the covers off just to take the pics. Been years since they’ve made Coupe de Villes now.

WOW!!!! Those headlights turned out PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did you use for the wheels? The Megs DUB? I may have missed that.

Yup, 91 or 92 was the last year for them... How often do you drive it?

Thanks bud. I used Wheel Brightener on the wheels. IMO nothing works better on chrome than D140.

92' was the last year because the Northstar debuted in 1993

It was my first car. I don’t plan on ever getting rid of it. To be honest with you, I don’t remember the last time I drove it. I just run it every so often and have it hooked up to a Battery Tender. I have a mobile mechanic come and replace the battery as needed.

Yea but there’s a bit of confusion, because for example the 92’ Eldorado & Seville were redesigned for 92’ yet didn’t get the Northstar till next year. So since they let those 2 redesigned cars live a year without their intended engine maybe they could’ve done the same thing to the Deville, that’s why I wasn’t sure if they redesigned it minus the Northstar for 92.

Cool. How old are you if you don’t mind me asking? My 1st car was supposed to be a 1988 Fleetwood Sixty Special [the small bodied car that looked just like a Sedan Deville but had certain features] The financing fell through at the last minute so that car never happened.

That's true, the redesign, with its modern body got the dinosaur engine, did not make alot if sense to me back then (I was 22 yrs old) I got to drive a 94' STS when it was brand new and was blown away, car flew, still remember that half a life ago!

I’m 41. I was close to getting an ‘88 BMW 5 series but when I drove some kind of weird sound from the air vents kept up so I passed thinking there could be a major repair needed.

The Caddy just called to me. I can still tell you where on the dealer lot I spotted it. I had it inspected and it was good to go. I thought about getting a newer Coupe de Ville but I just couldn’t part with this one.

I heard they tried real hard to finish up the Northstar in time for the 92’ redesign of those 2 cars, but decided against it because they didn’t want to rush such a big change in engine technology.

I’m 2yrs. younger than you and I also had my eyes on BMW, no particular car picked out or anything, I just knew I liked them.. But then I thought about the higher cost to repair because of them being import cars. That played a big part in me choosing Cadillac. The whole American made ya know.

I was very fortunate I never had many major repair bills other than having to get new shocks and struts when I first bought the car. It used to ride up and down across the road like a low rider lol rather than glide smoothly like it’s supposed to. That was due to 110,000 roughly driven miles on it in five years. Now that I babied the car ever since, today youd never think it is a high mileage car.

How many miles on it today?

12x,xxx. In the years since I had the Caddy I also had a Nissan Maxima that I actually drove. Got me through school and all. Still had that car through my move to Florida. The Caddy was a “ Sunday driver” Its the car that got me developing my detailing sickness. I can still remember how I restored my wire wheel covers with Eagle One wire wheel cleaner. There was no turning back from there!

You Caddy guys stick together, tip of the cap

If I were in the market for another Caddy it would have to be a classic. Probably early ‘60s but if budget allows, anything from the ‘50s.

My mom used to have a 85’ Sedan Deville, and before they sold it [for dirt cheap because I think the transmission was bad or something] I took the hubcaps off and brought them home with me. Lol.

I did the exact same thing, restored them with the Eagle 1 Chrome & Wire Cleaner [that used to be my stuff back in the days]... Man I cleaned them so good that for a while I had 1 of those hubcaps in my living room neatly placed under a little table with a mirror [I forget what those tables are called] I thought it looked great. But my ex gf finally made me put it away because she said it was ridiculous to have a hubcap in the living room... I said but it’s not just a hubcap, it’s a Cadillac!lol.
