My New Dream Car

Love it!!!!!

This belongs in the "What did you do today Detailing related?" thread.

Dang that thing was hammered!! LOL thanks for this post it made my morning.

I thought I did some extreme makeovers. Did you put it back up For Sale for a Dollar

In honor of the new forum software, I thought it was time to fix the pictures in this thread, I tried to edit the original post but it wouldn't let me put as many pictures in, so I'm just reposting in two parts:

I've always wanted a Mustang convertible, so I couldn't pass this up when I came across it at the local church rummage sale:

It's missing a wheel cover, does anyone know where I might pick one up?

There were some pretty good swirls on the hood:

And the interior was pretty dirty:

Some dirt around the spoiler:

Tires were pretty shiny, probably some greasy kid stuff from the dealer:

full

Underbody was clean, though:

Before I did anything else, I wanted to do some de-badging.

After:

While I was cleaning the interior I found this, I guess from the previous owner:

I hosed her down, notice the beading is better on the windshield than the rest of the car; I suspect Rain-X or Aquapel:

Then it was time for some serious cleaning. Used the foam gun with GC:

Then I started to wash with my new grout sponge (I understand Excel Detail will be carrying these soon, not sure if they will be the same size)

Interior got some cleaning, too:

I dried with a terry towel since I wasn't too concerned with marring because polishing was coming next:

Because of the special finish on this model, I decided that Meguiar's PlastX would be an appropriate polish:

I guess I really should have taped off some of the seams, because I got some polish residue in there:

It was ok, though, it wiped out. Some of the swirls were really deep, and since it was cold and windy, I didn't keep going until I got them all out.

Next step was sealing with Meguiar's MPPP (I was hoping to get a little filling of the swirls):

And buffing the residue off:

Wow those were some old-time products we used on that thing, Meg's hasn't made Medallion (MPPP) in forever. Things were a little different in 2012.

As noted in the original post, we decided to recreate the dream car thread here after everyone enjoyed this one: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/47293-always-wanted-purple-car.html

Since the dream car thread was originally on Autopia, the pictures were from the gallery over there, which doesn't work anymore, so I just uploaded them here.

EDIT: I was just looking at that old Autopia thread, it was from 2007, no wonder we were using that Medallion sealant--I think I may still have that bottle though.
