My other passion - Home Theater!

I just sold my rear speakers last week, so not at the moment, no!

Looking for something to replace them, but still searching!

I'm the big TV watcher in my house...I go from the car to the tv, from the tv to the car.

You're absolutely right about the speakers. I used to have cheap rears, then when I replaced them with some Polkaudios...the sound was amazing when watching movies.
Dude I'm telling you, Polks are awsome, their Sound Bar we have, that thing rocks and fills the whole living room with sound, kinda like a Bose Radio setup but on steroids. It's perfect for our living room. And that's saying something since our old house had a $$ theatre room custom built. I think I paid like $800 or something for the Polk Sound Bar.

Just a suggestion........you might want to look into Paradigm speakers when you decide to add rears, or just for the heck of it for that matter! I've found them to be very efficient and neutral sounding. Prices are realistic too.

Klipsch 7 channel surround sound, attached to Sony Dvd, Sony VCR, Sony Playstation 3, and Sony XBR 36 Wega. Yamaha powered, traded my Onkyo and regretted it every day but what the extra front sound staging (7 channel versus six).

Actually I do have a home theatre system of sorts, but very modest. We have a 27" Toshiba (tube) TV, Toshiba DVD player, Denon AVR-50 Receiver and two Bose 301 bookshelf speakers

Thanks for the suggestion. I am, however, a very big fan of British audio gear. I find the quality and warm sound very appealing, some Jap brands can sound very "plasticky". My previous rears were Wharfedales, but I have sold them because I want all my speakers to match brand-wise. So, I am looking at B&Ws.

However, the trick is placement. That's what I'm working on! I wish you guys come around so I could demonstrate 10 minutes of The Fifth Element. With that 12" turned up only 25% of its max capacity, my windows are literally shaking!!!

I don't watch much TV either Grimm, it's my wife that does all the TV watching in our house!

However, I do like watching movies and listening to music. When one gets new speakers, you find yourself listening to all your CDs and hear things that you never heard before. It's the greatest thing, it's like you have a brand new collection of music!

When I was putting together my stereo system it was very important to me that it perform equally as well with music as it does with a film soundtrack. I think having the big tower speakers in front help with that.

I'm planning on moving in the next year or so. I really need to upgrade to 7.1 and also upgrade the TV. I think my current receiver will do 6.1 but only with an external amplifier.

British audio gear is great stuff. However, audio electronics may be one of the few industries left where American products are still top notch.

Killr, I had a Yamaha receiver as well, but sold it a couple of years ago. So you like the Onkyo better than Yamaha? Thanks.

Also, this is for everyone.......there is almost no need to spend money on 7.1 receiver/speakers as all movies are formatted in 5.1/6.1 so the 7.1 wouldn't be true, just "extra" sound. Just an fyi....

I'm going to look into that for my mother. She's getting a 50" plasma, but doesn't want a bunch of speakers and wires all over the place for her home theater set up. This might be the perfect solution

My main setup is a Denon AVR-3806, Oppo DVD player (great player for the price!), Mitsubishi 52" DLP, Dish Network HD package. Speakers are currently a hodge-podge. The mains are B&W 805 Matrix series sitting on Sound Anchors that I purchased many years ago - they still sound great. I have them bi-amped from the Denon. Center and surrounds are Bostons - not sure of the models numbers. Sub is a 10" Velodyne - again, not sure of the model number. All wired with AudioQuest cable except for the rears and a couple digital cables. One day I'll get around to a timbre-matched speaker system...someday.

In my office/gameroom I have my old Denon AVR-2600 purchased many years ago and still going strong! Samsung 32" LCD TV, PS2, Infinity Primus 2-way bookshelf and center channel speakers, and an 8" Velodyne sub. No Dish Network as my wife and I don't watch much TV in there. Just using a powered antenna to get local SD and HD signals.

I too am thinking about a Denon receiver and dvd player to replace my current setup. Denon used to be one of the higher quality names, are they still? Dude, Velodyne subs ROCK!:righton: Nice;)

My last three receivers have been Denon. And the first one I bought in the late 80's is still working. So I've had an extremely good experience with Denon. The Audessy EQ system in their new models is pretty cool too.

I actually initially purchased a Yamaha before the AVR-3806. Within 3 days the remote's enter button failed. I returned the Yamaha and went with the Denon. It may have been a fluke with the Yamaha, but considering none of the Denon's have had any problems over all these years I stuck with them.

No comment on Bose. :o

I agree that brand/audio matching will yield the best sounding results. Just for the record the Paradigm speakers are Canadian.

Some great setups here!

Sevenrd: B&W 805s? That is not too shabby, I only wish I could make the upgrade to the 800 series now. One day I will have the 800Ds, but at $10K a piece, I just might have to hit it lucky! I want that, with a full rack of Rotel amps to go with it!

Dengood1: I am an avid reader of What Hi*Fi (British audio mag) and the have always praised the Denons. Hence, I went with one and have been very happy with it. However, it seems like the Sony boys did very well this year, the receiver of the year was actually one of their units. It barely beat out Denon, but still worth a look.
