Detailing is as much an art as it is a science. Manufactures offer an endless supply of products that target specific needs and that they hope you will buy, otherwise they'd go out of business.

What works for some may not work for others. We are all different and our goals and expectations are different as well. Developing a particular skill-set or technique is very important to establish consistency and uniformity throughout you process.

Experimenting with different products builds your knowledge and skills. You may find that certain product work better on one finish than another.

In the end you will find those products that work well and are working for you, this is all that its important. It's all about what works best for you.

Very nice writeup! Please don't let the grumpy naysayers cause you to stop posting what works for you. It may not be the best way to do things on a show car or garage queen but many of us live in the real world of daily drivers and limited time. Being able to see a few swirls in the brightest sunlight is not the end of the world and is certainly better than a car that never is cleaned or only sees a traditional car wash. :xyxthumbs:

Personally I agree with the other comments about not using a QD for this and watering it down being even worse. Pull it into the sun and move your line of site around and you will likely see some extremely fine glints flashing through your paint. If not then more power to you! Like Jim, Dwayne, and others have said check out the Ultima and Optimum waterless washes. The are both terrific. I have used the Ultima Waterless Wash a whole lot lately and I'm hooked.

One other thing I would not that I'm not sure was mentioned. It looks like you have mf towels that have a stiched edge rather then a border. Those edges represent a threat in my opinion as well.

Those are just my opinions and if its working for you then I think thats great.

I have yet to have any problems with Wal-Mart or any OTC microfiber. I don't have the budget to buy 6 towels for $40. Instead, I buy 36 for $25 and still achieve great results in my eyes.

Those Costco MF towels are now on sale for less than $10 for 36. That's practically free. I have better MF towels (i.e. Cobra), but for the price, they are great for a daily driver. I also consider them suitable for glass, interiors, trunks, wheels, etc., where I would not consider a significantly more expensive MF towel. I have also used them as semi-disposable for the engine compartment.

I wouldn't have used a QD either, but I think that's been established already. Not everyone is after a swirl free, show car finish. Your paint certainly looks to be in better shape than most cars on the road. So I say good job.
