My Rupes limping only after a year

I bought my Rupes 15 over a year ago, today while working on a paint correction it lost most of its power , sure it gets used often in my shop but thought Rupes was build better.

It runs but it is no good to me at this point.

Does it spend most of it time plugged directly into a wall outlet? Or through an extension cord? If it's through an extension cord, what gauge is it?

Maybe you bought one of the-- less than one percent --of the tools that experience problems that Todd Helme posted here regarding Rupes' defective tool rate in a different thread.

It spends very slowly even if plugged right into the wall outlet.
Was thinking of buying another so we would have two in my shop, now I'm not sure

Tried inspecting or replacing the carbon brushes yet? I'm sure the cyclo repair facility could get it running again and hopefully you have a back-up machine.

It is a year old, so I certainly wouldn't call it defective. Been hearing about a lot of broken rupes tools lately though. That's easy to say since the people voicing their opinion can't be working on a car with a broken polisher, especially if it's their only polisher (not directed at the OP)

I have more that one DA at my shop.
However we use the Rupes more.
I'll order a set of brushes to see if that's the problem.

Kevin, I use the heck out of my Duetto and Mini. I always make it a rule to keep a back up on hand, so I have a Duetto, and a Mini sitting in a Rupes bag, with a set of polishes, pads, and 808 sealant - ready to go should I need them.

Yes, a huge expense, but I'm not going to be down if I send my main machines out for service. It also helps to have the extra tools if I do a paint polishing lesson.

I also have three 7424s, and my first 7424xp.

Best of luck to ya. I remember how glad you were to have that tool when you first got the hang of it.
 
I have on hand my Flex 3401, GG6 a couple of PC'S so I'll be OK.

I think the brushes are bad, I'll find out where to order them.

You're right about having a backup, the Flex is my backup, I don't use it much but my guys do and love it.

About 2 hours after asking if you had checked the brushes, my mini air blower stopped working. Sure enough new brushes needed. Was able to get it running again temporarily, but will need to figure out what brushes to buy for this blower with no model number or anything. Of course the reseller is well known for their unresponsive customer service staff, lol.

That's definitely the selling point of the BOSS polisher systems when comparing it with the Rupes.

Hope that doesn't fail on you. But if it does, at least it will be taken care of.

a nice added touch (one of many) with the BOSS polishers is the ports on the side if you need to change brushes without having to take the whole thing apart...

Griots Boss - better warranty and customer support is awesome. It's shipped with extra washers and brushes.
It reminds me of the Oster 76 clippers. Powerful and easy to replace the brushes.

I still want a rupes and flex...
 
I hardly ever use my rupes MKII 15 anymore and when I do I tend to baby it. It's not quite 9 months old but after spending $400 dollars on the best quality polisher on the market, I found myself not wanting to put too much wear and tear on it for fear of something happening that isn't covered under the 1-year limited warranty. I bought the boss 15 to use as my workhorse and even though I think the rupes does have a little less vibration and seems to run cooler the boss does have a bit more power (although personally I've never used above speed 5 on either machine) so it really comes down to personal preference but I do like that Griot's Garage stands behind their tools 100% and are well known for taking care of problems whether it's a year or two years of heavy use, I like that they are 100% about customer satisfaction.

I did read somewhere that rupes offers an extended 3-year warranty for customers that have registered their polishers.....does anyone know whether or not this is true?
 
It seems a "professional polisher" should last years. People dig at the HF for being one that breaks down and you should have bought Rupes but if they don't fix them after only a year that's not good.

Same here a 21MKII sent it in and they said it was a bad bearing. It did about 15 cars :( now i've been waiting for the polisher for 2 weeks.
