My thoughts on the PCXP Menzerna max shine kit

haha thank you for taking the time to mathematically explain my point

Haha! No problem at all!

It's important to understand what the differences in pad sizes really mean to the machine and as you can see, there's a huge difference between them.

Another way to look at it is comparing tires of different widths. Would your car find it easier to light up a tire 6 inches wide or 12 inches wide? The same principal applies..:props:

press your palm on your desk with some pressure and try turning it clockwise or counterclockwise, now do it with the tip of your finger with the same amount of pressure, smaller surface areas require less energy to move given the same materials/density/etc.

Thanks Bobby for doing the math on that and sharing... I thought I posted something similar on surface area of pad sizes but I forget where...

Also, don't forget thickness as it's also an important factor.

Years ago I saw a foam pad introduced that was like 5" thick!
(I think it was orange, but not a cutting foam?)

The first thing I thought was the person behind the pad was going the wrong direction with the pad thickness or they've never used a PC before...

Thin is in...

:)

a 5 inch thick pad has much more mass (directly related to friction) to rotate and i feel like you would definitely have to apply some pressure to get the pad to compress and cut normally. also, it would surely throw off the oscillations, maybe even negate them on a DA.

You're very welcome Mike!

WOW, 5 inches think!! I have a couple of older ones at home that are about 2 inches think and do they look strange!

Thin is in...I keep telling my waistline that!!

Im glad to see many more people agree with my original post -

bobbyg - YES you have hit the nail on the head - that is my gripe about the kit not having 5.5 inch pads

as someone else said - was it a safety issue giving the 6.5 inch pads with the kit? if it wasn't for safety then what was it? because I think that we are all in agreement now that the 5.5 pads work much better with the pcxp/ even a 5" back plate for that matter.

just to share - I started polishing with the intensive polish and white 6.5 pad a day before i posted this thread... Ive got over 12 hours on just the first step :( I had to really spray the pad with instant detailer to keep rotation up - even then it still powdered up using an 18"sq area
