I had first talked to this customer last year. I actually had my doubts as to whether I'd get to see this car or not, but things worked out. Most of this car is a re-paint and it was done pretty well. He had some concerns about the trim around the windows and some scratches in the hood. I initially thought that a one step would do just fine on this paint, but it was very hard and that was not to be the case. This was also to be an inside and outside job. You'll see quite a few chips that needed repair too in this case. Please be patient with all the pics, LOL.

So, who's the 27 year old Hottie?

A 1986 Porsche 911.

Here it is as it arrived.

Wow, lots of pics. I love this era on 911 and was so excited to get going on it. First up was doing the wheels.

Barrels got IronX spray.
Barrels were followed with Zep Citrus.
Tires were cleaned with Zep 505.
Wheel faces were cleaned with Zep Citrus spray and DG 901 and a wash mitt. Raceglaze brush used for around wheel nuts, etc.
Wells cleaned with LATA.

Here is IX doing its thing on a wheel:

Next up was to foam the car and work all the crevices, emblems, etc with the Raceglaze brush.

That was followed by a hand wash with DG 901 which was rinsed off and then followed for a third cleaning with IronX paste on a grout sponge.

The car was then brought inside where the wheels, wells and barrels were blown dry with the Master Blaster. Next up was to clay it with a CarPro Elastofoam block.

Now it was time to go around this babe and see how the miles have been on her. In some cases, not kind...

Some chips in mischievous places!

Correcting the wheels:

The front wheels had paint staining to them. I was able to improve upon them, but not eliminate it. The rears were in much better shape.

I tried Sonax PF by hand via a mf and it worked really well. It kept the flat look (it might have increased the gloss only a hair) and took away a lot of imperfections.

Paint Correction:

I had given the customer a ridiculous range of cost depending on what it would take to get the paint where I wanted it. I first tried a Megs mf cutting pad with Sonax PF thinking I had done a good job. I did about half of the one side of the roof as a test. Then I tried getting more aggressive with it. I turned to what is quickly becoming a go-to combo for me, my Flex + M105 + TB black wool. You wouldn't believe the clarity it gave to the paint. That was my "AHA" moment I was waiting for to see what would rock this paint. I found it. That stage was followed up with M205 + white B/S + Rupes. That combo was used all over the car except for the tight areas that had to be done by hand (there were quite a few actually). I used a lot more tape on this car than I normally do to. There is so much exposed trim that I did not want to risk hitting it with a buffing pad.
As for the scratches in the hood, well, they were hard to see, but I couldn't budge them. It was almost like they were below the clear. I suppose that's possible, but I am not used to losing a battle to a scratch. To me, on a 27 year old car, it was not worth grinding down a bunch of clear just to remove scratches that were very hard to see. The owner was pleased at the end and that's the important part!

The exhaust got M205 + mf.

The chips were filled first after claying, and unfortunately, some got removed while compounding necessitating a 2nd attempt at them. I've been lucky lately with that not happening, but the paint was not curing fast enough in this case.

Trim:

I used 3 different trim products depending on what and where it was. The front rubber strip right below the hood got the DG beta trim coating. Here is a rough 50/50 showing its application:

The rear engine cover was treated with DLux as I was thinking heat may be a factor and wanted the strongest coating on that area. When you order it from Corey, he gives you these funky little swabs that I had never used before. They were the perfect width for the grille openings of the cover:

Some of the other trim, namely around the windows, got UTTG.

Interior:

Glass done with KD/CarPro Fast Glass cloth.
Leather & plastic cleaned with OPC at 4:1 using a knock-off Autoglym Interior pad.
Leather & plastic protected with UIGP.
Carpeting vacuumed.

Protection:

All the paint, side and rear glass, wheels and exhaust tip were coated with OG.
The windshield was done with Opt Pro Glass Coating.

15 hours later, here she is to behold:

Can you tell I was proud of how the wheels came out?!?

Thanks for looking. Comments always appreciated.

A hottie, indeed! Richy, you did an outstanding job on this 911. You made that silver pop, and your hard work certainly shows.

Thanks. I didn't zoom in on the leather on a pic, but you can do so on your computer or phone and see. The severity of the look of the cracks in the leather was lessened I would say and the UIGP definitely made it softer and more supple to the touch. The cracks were just too long established to be able to make disappear. And thanks about the wheels.

Great results again richy ! Keep up the good work !
