I purchased a Mytee S-300 for mobile work. When it arrived the cap on the capture tank was in pieces. It was immediately replaced by the distributor. On the first use of the machine for a job, after about 5 minutes of use, the hose began to come apart. I cut off the separated section and continued. I have found the hose continues to come apart. I have taped the entire length with duct tape as a temporary fix but it is far from a professional look. The junctions of the hose also have begun to pull apart with any pressure on them now that the weather is warmer.

Even with the new cap the dirty water continues to leak making it not practical for use in a large SUV where the machine must be placed in the vehicle in order to reach.

I sent an email to Mytee several days ago and have yet to receive any response.

If this is the quality to be expected from the brand I cannot ever justify spending over $1000 for a bigger machine, particularly if their customer service is going to ignore me if there is an issue.

Anecdotally we have heard here on the forum that the largest machines (those over $1000) are substantially more robust than the smaller machines. I can't vouch whether the customer service is any better on those machines.

If you bought the machine here at Autogeek, I would suggest contacting them, the customer service here is usually described as being "above and beyond".

some have expressed that mytee's customer service is poor (search and you'll find some threads) and there was one specific thread that i can't find that definitely proved it. if i ever buy a carpet extractor it definitely will not be from mytee...

Ya. I can't understand why Autogeek still carry that brand after all the debates regarding the poor quality of the machines and the lack of customer support. The other thread Visitor was talking about is about 2 years old. The guy had so much trouble with his unit. In his case I believe it was the pump that kept failing. He also had electrical parts that melted in his unit. Pretty nasty situation.

Yes, but to be fair there were also plenty of people in that thread and others who said they love their machine and have no problems. Also to be fair, it seemed that the more casual users of the machines were the ones who had no problems, where the heavy (pro) users were the ones who seemed to have continuing problems.

I bought a Mytee Lite III about 3 months ago. Just after ordering, but before receiving it, I found that thread where it seemed thousands hated the company. I felt horrible. Then it came to using it the first time and the recovery hose leaked on my hardwood floors as I was using it on my house carpet. I called them and they had me send a pic of what was going on. I did, and they sent me a replacement at their cost. Turns out, I was traveling and the package arrived while I was gone and since I wasn't there for delivery, it was returned. I had to ask them to send it again. Seeing if lightning would strike twice, they said I would have to pay for shipping this time. I agreed since it was my fault. A few weeks later the package arrived again, no charge to me. So there is a bad and good story.

So did the new hose fix the problem?

Thermax machine is awesome 6 years of abuse on cars and tile zero promblems.

My $300 non Mytee spot extractor blows away my used to have $800 Mytee lite 2. Mytee is a no no in my book.

anyone can get get good customer service once or twice, but getting it everytime is a different story. if a company doesn't back their product(s) or respond then i rather not support them. why put money in someone's pocket if they don't deserve it..

Even so. There a many other brands that don't have these issues. Considering Autogeek has top notch customer service and carry premium products, it makes no sense to me they would stick with a brand that reflect none of those values. Also I would assume a good portion of their clients are pros, or at lease prosummers. So why not go with a brand that doesn't disintegrate when you use it a lot?

Autogeek has addressed some of these issues as they have come up. If I recall they have reiterated their support for the product and feel these are isolated cases. Also if I recall they use the Mytee machines in the ShowCar...er...Competition Ready garage and Mike has not reported these problems with them.

I haven't used it since. That was just a couple weeks ago and I've been travelling. Hopefully by the end of the week.

My Mytee HP60 is 9 years old and going strong. I have rebuilt many pieces of the unit over time and it's actually better now (with upgraded parts) than it was new. I'm not sure what parts Mytee even makes for these extractors. None of the pumps, vacuums, hoses, lines, fittings, heaters, valves, wands etc are even made by Mytee.

Eye opening thread to say the least. I'll save my money a bit longer.

As I noted earlier, anecdotally the larger machines are said to be more robustly designed. As far as the parts sourcing, looking at it the other way I doubt any of the pump, vacuum, hose, line, fitting, heater, valve mfrs make extractors, so I'm not sure of the relevance. Many if not all of those items would be considered "commodities" which would be silly for the extractor mfr. to make.

However you make a great point about the quality of those parts, which the extractor manufacturer selects. Arguably the price point of the Mytee Lite drives some of those decisions.

Just to chime in...

I use the MyTee HP60 Spyder and the MyTee 8070 Lite II in my classes. I've never had a single breakdown or problem. Just hasn't happened.

While I don't work in the "sales" side of Autogeek and don't know the numbers I do know that generally we sell boat loads of MyTee products and in the big picture problems with the units are far and few between.

Generally speaking when people buy a product and like it they go about their lives. They don't start threads about how much they love their new coffee maker. But when they purchase a product and have problems then they do start threads about it typically justified as they are frustrated.

This is where top notch customer service comes into play. The top focus from the top down here at Autogeek is excellent customer service. This forum, my replies to questions, (usually in-depth), is one of my contributions to the "Customer Service Department" here at Autogeek as an example of the focus Autogeek requires from all departments.

My opinion is that all companies are more successful overall when they offer top notch customer service. It's a practice that takes effort for sure.

I think it's pretty obvious (to me, anyway) that if there were a lot of problems with these machines you folks wouldn't be selling them.

Now on to your post...

I purchased a Mytee S-300 for mobile work.

First question: Did you purchase this product through Autogeek? It doesn't matter if you did or not as I'll try to help no matter what but just to confirm.

When it arrived the cap on the capture tank was in pieces. It was immediately replaced by the distributor.

It sounds like you contacted them and they replaced the broken part. My guess is maybe it broke during shipping? Who knows but the fact that they replaced it with no other details from the outside looks like good customer service on MyTee's part.

Question: After the first use of the machine, when you first discovered there is a problem with the hose, did you contact MyTee to let them know about the problem?

If you did, what did they do or say?

If you didn't, how long did you wait before you contacted them about the problem that started with the first use?

I've never had any sign of the hose breaking apart on the units in our garage and the plastic material they are made from is actually a pretty stout material.

Can you take a picture of the areas that are breaking and post them to this thread or send them to me and I'll post them to this thread.

Even with the new cap the dirty water continues to leak making it not practical for use in a large SUV where the machine must be placed in the vehicle in order to reach.

I don't have a Mytee S-300 Tempo Carpet & Upholstery Extractor out of the box but it looks like it has the same cap out 8070 unit has. This is a plastic cap that mates to a plastic outlet. There is no gasket so you must tighten down to prevent leaking.

It's possible there's a bur or some other un-even surface between the cap and the outlet, perhaps check and use a fine file or some fine sandpaper to smooth it over.

I'll take the cap off the 8070 and when I'm at Lowe's this weekend I'll see if there's some off-the-shelf rubber gasket that fits inside this cap in the plumbing isle because this is really what any hard interface like this needs just to make it bubba-proof.

I sent an email to Mytee several days ago and have yet to receive any response.

I've been e-mailing since e-mail was invented and I try my best to answer all incoming e-mails within 24 hours and many of you that have e-mailed me know I reply back in hours. That said once in a while I completely miss one.

So no comment from me about anyone else's e-mailing protocols.

If this is the quality to be expected from the brand I cannot ever justify spending over $1000 for a bigger machine, particularly if their customer service is going to ignore me if there is an issue.

The leaking cap is annoying I'm sure, especially if you're placing the unit "in the vehicle" and I "think" the right answer is for the company to include a rubber gasket with any model that uses this style of sealing the dirty water tank. At least a rubber gasket would or should ensure minimal risk for leaking but in the big picture this is kind of a small detail.

As for the other points you make, they did send you a replacement cap and hopefully you'll get a reply to your e-mail.

:)
