i honestly can't think of anything in the world that smells like it. and it's the Pro that is incredibly pungent...not so much the regular version.

it is an absolutely incredible product, so whatever it is, it functions perfectly, but dang

Iron x and TRIX smell amazing ! Not really.

IX smells worse than TRIX imo. but i can think of things that sorta smell like both of them, well a combo of odors. i can't do the same for Opti-Glass Pro.

Opti-Glass pro almost smells like grapes. Almost like sour chemical grapes? I kind of enjoy it and hate it at the same time.

I haven't smelt it but what you are describing is roughly an aldehyde odour. For instance, glutaraldehyde smells a lot like slightly off apples. That is quite possible as an ingredient, such things are often used as preservatives in chemical products.

Off topic but how does this compare to FlyBy30?

i haven't tried CarPro's glass stuff but all reports are that it doesn't last as long (it's not designed to) and that it sheets vs. beads. i mean, you can sheet water off with Opti-Glass but it seems to be much slicker when reviewing video side by sides, so the water sorta just falls off/slides up.

i guess i should look into it to learn more but when i found out that OPT was involved in impact testing using Opti-Glass and was seeing proof of it working in that regard...i was sold. who am i kidding, i'm always sold on OPT stuff. the dude is the best.

I'm not worried about lasting as long because carpro claims 8 months and optimum claims one year which isn't much longer. But the opti glass is way more expensive.

Indeed, CarPro claims six to eight months or a season.

There are several ways to look at these coatings outside of the water behavior differences because I believe them to be different technology and you pay for that. Optimum claims chip/impact resistance and apparently has tested that in a scientific trial manner in both a lab setting as well as real world tests with a rental company (I believe I saw Enterprise named somewhere on this forum.) That is a huge benefit. Chips and impacts not only can damage a windshield to the point where you need repair, but every day road wash and debris can make a windscreen look like crap after a while, even if it doesn't get hit with the type of debris that'd normally cause major chips and the like.

That 60cc OPT bottle will do A TON of windows. Like...many cars. That is a plus if you have multiple cars or do side work because it is then much more cost effective than the CarPro items whilst apparently being a better technology. But I can understand that the extra size value doesn't matter if you only are doing one or two cars!

I have had such success with the other OPT coatings and know them to outperform the CarPro coatings that it was a natural progression for me to go with Opti-Glass, however I am using Pro, not the standard product. Not that it matters, but I'm just saying.

I've seen videos and I am more impressed with the opti glass and the ability to bead off water quickly. However, from a price standpoint and someone who is just a weekend warrior I'm probably just going to try the CarPro and see how I like it since it's less than $20 for the whole kit.

Can any of you compare against Gtechniq g5. It's my current glass treatment.

How did you decide to go with GTechniq G5 vs G1?

The GTechniq website indicates that the G5 has better repellency and the G1 has better durability

What durability do you get out of the G5?
