Natural Sea Sponge Scratched the Sh*t out of my Car!

Well the only product I have now is XMT 360... I don't know if it's even worth trying. I guess I'll start with the hood since I don't really care if I screw the hood up (it's dented/dinged). If the 360 is doing nothing then I guess I'll place an order for something stronger.

I will say that the pics I took make it look A LOT worse than in person.

Also, the paint had been corrected in May, those marks were NEVER there before this wash. Even before the correction, I had swirl marks, but NEVER marks like these. All of these marks correspond directly to the direction in which I was rubbing the sponge.

Maybe it was just dirt stuck to the surface of the car. It hadn't been washed in a month at least, but it's not like I go off roading with it... It was pretty much just dusty. What was I to do though? I did thoroughly spray the car before touching it with the sponge, but maybe that wasn't enough?

So uh... anyone want a cheap natural sea sponge? Only used once! :D

I use a sea sponge, its my favorite tool for washing right now. My sponge did not have sand, and has never marred my paint. I think its something else....

And those scratches seen way too deep to be from the sponge...

I've been using the sea sponge with ONR & 4in1 for a couple of months now. I noticed scratches, but I can't rightfully place the blame on the sea sponge. For one thing the car is black so anything that touched the paint at anytime could be responsible for the scratches. the only items that I fine work well with waterless washes are the sheepskin mitt and the sea sponge. The mitt sheds like crazy with the waterless washes, so leaves with only the sea sponge.

Just my .02 if I can, I have a dark blue vehicle that gets washed with a sea sponge and boars hair all the time. I absolutely love the sea sponge and have never had the results you got. I would have to respectfully agree with everyone else, that the sponge was not the culprit. Just look at it this way, good reason to try out the UDM!
As for the polish, try XMT 2 with orange if thats not stronge enough bust out the XMT 3 and it will do the trick. Good luck with it.:buffing:

Bump! Apparently the scratches were not as bad as they appeared. Perhaps the scratches were in the protective coating from my previous detail rather than the clear coat? Is that possible? After a bunch of washes they started to get less severe, but still there non-the-less.

I finally manned up and used my UDM for the first time. It's been sitting in my room for a year! I put an orange pad on, then some 360, and went at it. A hell of a lot easier than I thought, and the results were spectacular:

To reiterate, here is the before shot again:

And here are some afters (I only did a small section so far):
