Is it possibly "alcantara", a synthetic material made to look like suede? Just curious, because suede is seldom used, alcantara is used in every type of car from luxury to exotics.

When i hear suede, I am still stuck in the 80's and 90's, thinking of ugly, fringe black suede leather jackets from Wilson's leather in our hometown mall. Need to update my vernacular.
