Need a new desktop, any suggestions?

Ryan, I tried your advice above and the computer wouldn't boot up. Had to clear the cmos to get it running again. Suggestions?

Thanks!

Sorry for the hijack!!!

Make sure you set the RAM divider at 1:1, otherwise that 400Mhz FSB is going to run the RAM speed well above what it's cabable of.

I'm still running my lowly E6400 Over clocked from 2.133 to 2.8, but it's really not a limiting factor for me. The most stressful thing I do is gaming and my video card (8800 GTS 640mb - it's overclocked a little as well) is still the bottleneck.

If you downed the multiplier to 9 and the FSB to 400 , make sure you run the RAM at 1:1 ratio and maybe give the RAM a tad boost in voltage [next increment up].

I did that, and the 1:1 ratio was (ddr2-800). Should this number be different? Also, I'm running the OCZ sticks at 2.1v(recommended 1.9 - 2.1). Hmmm....not sure why it wouldn't boot up. Should the pci-e be 100 or 101?

Thanks guys.

can you post a pick of your BIOS screen? Seeing all the settings would help.

.

at first boot....stock, no changes.

multi=9
external clock = 400
DRAM Speed= 1:1 or 2.3? I think. First put in the FSB of 400 then adjust the ratio until it says DDR800

CPU Vcore: Go up another notch or two.

DRAM Voltage: put it at the recommended 2.1

PCI-E frequency is fine @ 100mhz

Also how are you cooling this cpu? This will help determine how much vitamin V you can use safely.

You might try starting a little lower than 400, even with the multiplier lowered, 400 is pretty hefty OC. Maybe give 350 FSB a try.

400fsb wouldn't work with the multiplier at 9 for some reason, so I left it at 10, went to 320fsb and it's now running fine at 3.2 gigs at 1:1.25 ratio (to get ddr800). Do you see any downside to this? I'm going to try the 350fsb and 9x to see what that does at 1:1 ratio.

Ryan, it is being cooled on air:) Seriously, nothing else. The highest I've seen the temp at boot up is 100f.

What is the best program to monitor the temperature of the cpu? Thanks again for your help guys.

best bet would be Coretemp. :)
