Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and need some advise. I've just purchased a Cadillac 2006 SRX. Car came with ResistAll Sealant coating applied by dealership with 5 year warranty against fading, bird droppings, tree sap etc. Dealership tells me to put a good coat of Carnuba wax every 2 months. I'm looking for advise on what to use because I see all these great cars on this forum and I want my car to look just as great. But at the same time I don't want to mess with or use something that will compromise the dealer sealant.
Any help or advise I could get would really be appreciated.

1st off what color is the vehicle?
For sealants you have WG DGPS, DP Surface Shield, Menzerna Sealant, Etc
For Carnuba's I highly recommend Pinnicle Souveran, also PB's Natty's, XMT, etc.
Different products will enhance different colors.

Pinnacle Souveran would look awesome on white diamond paint I believe. The stuff isn't cheap, but it's high quality. I have been trying to figure out exactly what the factory seal is, and from what I have read it's not all thats it's cracked up to be by the dealer. I believe you will want to seal the car again yourself. On a paint that color you would probably do some Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant and then top that after it sits for like 12 hours with some Pinnacle Souveran. That would look reall nice. Also, is the paint perfect? Does it have any swirls or anything? You might want to do a polish on it, then it will be ultra nice!@
 
and there's so many different kinds of seals. I really am not positive what's the best for you, but I have heard Wolfgang looks good on white cars. But I am sure there's others with different opinions and who are more knowledgable about this stuff than me. I am not a pro, so don't take what I say as the bible. I am just some nobody on the internet!

Pinnacle Liquid Souveran looks great on white. Poorboy's Nattys Blue also looks very nice. I would not worry too much about the dealer's sealant. It's not going to last 5 years no matter what their guarantee is or how much you paid for it.

Your probably right about the sealant not lasting 5 years. I bought the car new at a steal because other purchaser's deal fell thru. The poor guy paid $1,000.00 for this sealant. The point is they gave me this really nice kit to refresh the ResistAll Sealant and it's just a bottle of liquid wax. Car does shine I must admitt but it's nothing special like the cars on this site.

As offered before the paint sealant they offered is dung. To get some serious reflection and some metallic flake out of that color (it also comes with a pearled clearcoat) I highly suggest some polishing w/ Menzerna Nano-polish and then coating with paint sealant. This was Duragloss, but had similar results with Four Star and Wolfgang.

Joining this site is the best thing I've ever done. This so great to be involved in such an experienced site. I'm ordering my Porter Cable buffer/polisher today. Now I just have to decide which of the great advice I've been given to use.

Gary, This is a great site with a lot of very nice and knowledable people on it. AG always carries a lot of great products and has great customer service.

That has to be the finest White detail job I've ever seen. I think I know where to start now. Can I use the Porter Cable buffer/polisher with these products ? Should I order the lambs wool polishing pad. Thanks again for the info.

Gary, you didn't say anything about polishing your new car. I wouldn't polish it unless you have a lot of swirls marks. Don't order a lambs wool polishing pad. If you are going to polish your car I would use foam pads with a PC . Since the car is new it should have good paint and need little correction is any. If you polish it your going to take off the $1,000 dealer sealant. I usually put on a wax or sealant by hand but you can use the Porter Cable. Watch the videos on the AG website. Liquid Souveran (Original) and Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant are very easy on easy off products to do by hand.
 
I would offer another route ... even if the vehicle has little to no swirls, it is time to remove the dealers sealant and to amp the paint (jewel) it to the next level. If paint is good, with no visible swirls then use a finishing polish (Menzerna) and a finishing pad on the PC. Follow up with the sealant or wax of your choice. This will set the foundation for a lifetime of proper detailing. Also dont forget to clay, and never allow dealer to wash again. Cadillac does a full service deal with even oil changes, so you must have them note it on file.

Here is a pic of our CTS before the SRX. It had the optional paint and the same pearled clear (3 step paint) that your truck does. It always glowed as taken care of properly from day one.

Okay, how do I remove the dealers sealant. I read somewhere that you was your car with dawn dish washing soap to get your car clean for wax. Last night read almost every thing on Autogeek on waxes. Ugh, what a site of info. With the forum included in this site I'm really can't wait to jump in and detail my car.
Paint job is perfect no swirl marks, sealant on it looks nice but not compared to the detail of cars on this site. Great jobs on your cars people. The great thing I've noticed is many of you use different products but achieve great results.

First rule in detailing, leave Dawn in the house. Lots of misinformation and a highly alkaline dishwashing liquid will due more damage to rubber surrounds, and wont put a dent in a paint sealant.

You need to consider the regimine of wash --- clay --- polish (or paint cleanser) ---- protect.

If you use any polish (abrasive) or a chemical paint cleaner (Pinnacle, P21S) then you will remove the dealers sealant anyways. Dont think his is some super edition, its just like the stuff we sell. Then learn to protect the way you want and do so as often as possible. (several times a year on daily driver)
