Hey Guys,

I am planning on recoating my '18 4Runner this summer and need some help/input on the best polish to use. The truck was coated with MK37 in Fall of 2017. I want to coat with CQuartz UK (unless you convince my to go with the regular CQuartz) since I am in Michigan and we have some harsh winters. The paint is in really good condition (very, very minor swirls, if any, some water spots, and a door ding).

What Polish would be the best to use before I coat with CQUK?

I was thinking of using GG BOSS Perfecting Creme or Reflect, but then I saw Essence. What would be best in my situation? Essence looks like it designed as a prep polish for CQ. I would like to get a polish that I can use to polish other cars as well.

And if it matters, I will be using LC thinpro polishing pads (white). If I need to got softer, I also have LC CCS finishing pads (black). Thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

Do you already own perfecting cream or reflect? If so either of those would work to remove the older coating.

I don't have either one of those. Looking to get a new polish.

Also, when I mentioned Essence, I meant the Xtreme Gloss Enhancer version and not the PLUS version.

Can't go wrong with menzerna 3500. If the car is in as good of shape as you say Menzerna 3800 is even better. Not much cut though so the car needs to be in really great shape. But Menzerna 3500 finishes kinda just as perfect.

I'm going to recoat mine 4th of july weekend. I got the new scangrip multimatch 8, 8000 lumen paint match light!!! And I'll be using Menzerna. Ive used all the other ones and I really think Menzerna is the best.

Essence leaves a nice looking gloss but it's mostly due to the sio2 it leaves on the finish. That is deceiving Imo

I did a comparison between Essence and 3800 on my black GM.

Just a small spot. I found with little effort 3800 left a perfect shine while ever so slightly Essence left a hint of haze. I mean light and magnifying glass difference.
Most wouldn't notice or even see a difference.

For me it was enough to go through the repetitive wipedown of 3800.
My problem is I feel obligated to use Essence before CQ even though I know 3800 is better.

I took off next Thursday and Friday to do my grey car.
I am polishing off the perfectly good Gloss Coat and using up my open bottles of CQUK3.
I will use 3500 with white, 3800 with black then Essence as a wax application and wipe for prime.

Sounds like fun. Dont feel bad I dont think there are to many auto geeks that get anywhere near the full lifespan of thier coatings before they polish them off of there own cars.

It's not about how nice your car is shining it's about how shiny you can get it next time.

I was in the same boat 3 weeks ago. Used Essence and loved it. So easy to use and wipe off. Let that sit overnight and did a mild Eraser wipedown the next day and coated with UK 3.0 + Gliss v2. Washed it for the first time today and it was great.

I had great experience with Essence as well. Did a wipedown with eraser after an hour and then coated with UK 3.0 and Gliss V2 with no ill effects. Car looked terrific afterwards and is still fine 4 months later.

Essence has fillers in it and it leaves the sio2 behind so you are Definitely not seeing the true paint condition after using it.

Just something to take into account
