Hi guys,

I am looking to buy an entire kit and I was looking at purchasing the PC kit with all the Pinnacle products but it seems like everyone is always using another product like the Wolfgang, or DP, or even the Pinnalce XMT? I'm a rookie and I need to purchase a package that includes everything. Can someone help with any suggestions. Will be making the purchase tonight.

thanks in advance,

If you are wanting to remove scratches then I would chose Meguiar's. Why are you so hung up on pinnacle?

I would get Megs 105 & 205 with some Flat 5.5 pads. I hate CCS and I don't know why most of the kits some with them..especially with a D.A..

The main things you need are, in my opinion, Megs 105 & 205, Menzerna PO 85RD & PowerLock, 6 or 2 (6) pack of 5.5" Flat pads. You could do 2 orange, 2 white and 2 blue or if you get the 12 pack aka 2 6 packs you can get 4 orange 3 whites 3 blacks and 2 blue. You also need a D.A. and that is just personal opinion. Some like GG since it's more powerfull and some like the 7424XP and other like the Meguiar's G110V2. If you get the 5.5" pads you will need a smaller 5" backplate as well. You also should get the Brinkman Dual Xenon light as it is a must in order to see scratches and to really evaluate the condition of your paint.

You could also get a wax, some MF towels along with many other things in order to achieve what you want.

The reason is because they have those videos on here that shows you step by step on how to wash, clay, polish, and wax so I figured I'd buy the same products. Easier for me to follow.

It's pretty much the same if not the exact same with the same type of product. You use an high aggressive polish that is from pinnacle the same way that you would use the same type of product from Meguiar's, Menzerna. Wolf Gang etc. I'm sure there are extremely small differences, but I honestly can't think of any.

Meguiar's is probably the better product as well. They are well known for their polishes in the professional detailing world.

What kind of car do you have and what are the scratches like? What is your goal?

You can just go to walmart and buy some clay, that should be perfectly fine. Same with the wash as well.

So let me just clarify. I will probably get the
1. PC 7424XP with a 5 inch backing plate.
2. Megs 105 and 205 (used to remove swirls) these are both swirl removers and not glaze or wax right? sorry to be a pain...
3. LC 5.5 pads. I will follow your color guide.
4. What is the (Menzerna PO 85RD & PowerLock).

I have a 2006 Infiniti FX, black and is in excellent condition besides the normal very very light swirls. There are no dent or scratches. I just bought it back in January. Just became a member 2 months ago and have been researching on how to detail. Before this website, I didnt even know that people can make their cars swirl free. Now im hooked and cant wait to start detailing my own car.

Excellent combination! You're not a pain, you're like a lot of us that are new and still learning. Asking questions, reading, and practicing is what it takes to learn. To answer your question, Meguiar's M105 and M205 are not glazes or waxes. One thing you will want to do is buy a bottle of isopropyl alcohol or mineral spirits, pour into a chemical resistant spray bottle, and wipe down each section after you polish. This will remove any oils that the polishes leave behind so that you can see your progress.

Menzerna PO85RD is a micro polish that is used to elevate the shine even more than M205. Using this with a gray pad will give you amazing results. The Menzerna Power Lock is a paint sealant that locks in all that hard work you just put in polishing your paint to perfection.

Don't worry about being a pain! I love helping people with this!

I don't know how much you know so I am going to explain everything regardless if you know it or not to to make it clear :xyxthumbs:

First thing, don't get yourself in trouble with the term "glaze" it could mean to take out swirls or it could mean to just make the car shine without taking swirls out. It just depends. I bought a product not expecting to take swirls out and I found out it did. Just a tip there :)

I understand you being excited I was/am the same way every time I do a detail!

Since you said that your FX (35 or 45?) only has light swirls you possibly could get away with just buying the 205 as 105 is pretty aggressive, actually the most aggressive out there, but this is your call. You could need it later and if you buy it with a package it will save you money in the long run.

The 7424XP is a fine choice and a 5" backing plate helps with the plate not protruding outside of your pad and hitting the paint.

Yes, 105 an 205 are polishes/compounds. They remove paint. The 105 removes more (has a rating of 12/12) and the 205 removes less (has a rating of 4/12).

When you get the pads make sure you get the FLAT pads and not the CCS pads. I, as well as many other people prefer the FLAT pads over the CCS pads..at least when using a D.A. I know the kits come with the CCS pads, but maybe customer support can switch them to Flat pads..again i'm not sure why they don't offer a kit where you can choose the color and type of pad...

Okay, now on to Menzerna. It is a brand that is somewhat similar to Meguiar's. Very much so in terms of polishes/compounds as they make great ones as well.

The 85RD is a polish that is a step down or a little bit less aggressive than 205. For most cars, the 205 should leave a nice, swirl free finish, but for some like my Honda that scratches fairly easily (also called soft paint) it needs another step to make it swirl free. The 85RD does that. Now, I don't know how hard or soft the Infinity paint is so you may or may not need 85RD. I will go and find out and get back to you on that one.

The other Menzerna product, the Power Lock is a sealant which is a type of wax I guess you can say. It is basically a synthetic wax and not natural like most paste waxes. The advantages of a sealant are that it last longer, some up to 6 months where as a wax may last 2 months. Sealants also give a deep look while a natural paste wax gives a wet look.

You can put a sealant on then wait for 12 hours and apply a wax, but it is up to you. If you were going to do that I would get DP Max Wax first, because it's a great wax and second because it's on BOGO right now. It is commonly known here at AG as the hidden gem as it is a cheap wax that performs remarkable well.

Ask any other questions you may have, I will be more than happy to answer! :buffing:

Very well said Richard!

So I would either use a m105 or m205 to remove the swirls, then use the Menzerna PO85RD with a gray pad to polish, then seal it with the powerlock? no wax is needed b/c the paint sealant is the same right? Which pad color do I use with the Power lock?

You would use 105 ,205, 85RD, Power Lock. According to how soft your paint is determines what pad you use with what. For the Power Lock I would choose blue regardless though.

Pads To Use With Product

105
  • Orange
  • White

205
  • Possibly Orange
  • White
  • Black

85RD
  • Black
  • Blue

Power Lock
  • Blue

No, you don't need a wax if you have a sealant, it is just up to you.

As for what Richard said, don't listen to him, he's just saying nonsense :)

Get 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and put it in a bottle and spray and wipe off after polishing. You can do it after every product such as after 105 then 205 then 85Rd or you can do it after 205 or 85RD or whatever you like. It's up to you.

You can stop with a sealant but if you have the cash pick up a tub of Pinnacle Souveran to layer the Power Lock. I have layered 2 black cars with Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 followed by Pinnacle Souveran and the finished results are just awesome! One of the guys on here posted today that he layered his Mustang with Power Lock followed by Souveran.

Yep, pure non sense

Ok Now i understand exactly what products to purchase. On another note. What do you guys recommend for clay kits?

You do know I was just kidding right? :)

I just get a Meguiar's at Walmart for $15 and be done with it.

Let us know what you are going to get.

Yes. I forgot to add a smiley!

Or Mothers (my favorite), very sticky clay, soft so that you can feel everything (some don't like how soft this clay is), and Mothers Showtime instant detailer is no joke! This stuff is super slick. Oh, there's also the ever famous Clay Magic.

Im not sure if the one of the questions was answered, but many great great options and advice here.

A sealant is simply a synthetic wax. Use it alone, or top with a pure 'nuba wax as desired. You wont do wrong with Menzerna Powerlock its a great product indeed.

Ok this is what I will be purchasing.
1. PC 7424 XP
2. Megs 105 and 205
3. Menzerna 85RD
4. Menzerna Powerlock
5. LC 5.5 pads (2 orange, 2 white, and 2 blue)
6. Clay kit from Walmart like you said
7. Pinnacle Souveran Wax
8. 2 bucket system
8. Not sure what type of wash to get.

I already have a wash mit, armorall tire gel, Invisible glass Window cleaner, plenty of micro fiber towells, and trim restorer.

It's all good :xyxthumbs: I haven't tried mother's so I will next time. Why do you like it over Megs?

You can just get some 5 gal buckets at Lowes or Home Depot as it will be much cheaper, I don't know about the dolly though. You can try mothers' clay since Richard likes it better than megs. Gold Class by Meguiar's is a really good wash. Right now they have it on sale for $6 for a gallon at Target!

I havn't tried Souveran but I hear it is a good wax. Actually Fuzion is more expensive normally, but now they have a BOGO on the 3 oz one for $50 so You get 6 oz of a more "better" wax for $50 or you can get 8oz of Souv for $95. Your pick!

I think your pad choice should be fine. Black and blue are really similar.

Is there a kit that meets your needs?
