I have a costumer/Friend That has a plastic heavy duty tool box in the back of his truck and he wants it shiny again. Well I've never dealt with this problem, what is the best thing to put on it that will last a long time etc.

Yours truly,

Yes, its a diamond plate design, grayish dis-color. I've seen them brand new at home depot.

Plastic, Real strong stuff. I just tried wheel dressing then ran water all over it, then blew it dry and its still goofy lookin.
I'm stumped so I may just tell him to forget it.

PS I've already scrubbed the devil out off it with mild soap first.

I'm wondering if I can buy a high grade silicon spray to put on it that will soak in?

Well, you can get some ArmorAll and it will be shiny until it rains...or as Flash said you can get a better water-based dressing that will last until it rains twice, or a solvent-based dressing that will last until it rains 3 times, or you can buy some WETS, it's on sale this week: Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant, rubber trim sealant, rubber protectant, exterior trim products, metal sealer

Probally, but dust is going to stick to it like crazy. Not to mention that when it rains your going to have streaks running down the sudes of the bed

Here's what you're looking for possibly. It's a Meguire's product that is highly underrated. It used to be called #36 Plastic Vynil Prep...a super plastic/vynil/rubber cleanser that would prepare surface for a re-dye. It now sports a new name and can be found over-the-counter if you look hard enough. Here it is;

Meguiars #39 Professional Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner, clean vinyl, meguiars interior cleaner

If it's looking grimmy this stuff will clean it.

Then follow BobbyG's advice by polishing it with PlasticX or one of the other products he mentioned.

I would then top it with UTTG or something similar like C4. These two products should keep it looking nice and repelling water for a good period of time. To keep dust from adhearing so much, you could top either the UUTG, or C4 with a product called Permanon....but those 3 products will cost you a good bit to obtain if you don't already have them.

You'll have more money in product most likely than what he'd be willing to pay you for. In that regard, he may be better buying a new box. Just my .02!

^ Opps, That's what happens when you break your glasses, Thanx!
