My menzerna IP is drying really fast, i only have about 40 sec of polishing time, even if i only use it for 40 sec it still drys to my paint and it is really tough to remove, itstarts powdering at 1 min....Why????????? i have to go over an area like 3 times because i have such a sort working time. i am appltying a fat X on my pad and working in a 2x2ft area.

this has never happend to me before with other polishes. is this normal??

Whats the temp like outside? Mist your pad, and if the polish gets dry then mist that too.

it is like 65F , i am working inside, the paint is cool to the touch.

I have noticed Menz is different than 3M that I normally use. Are you using much of it? That would be the first thing to correct. No chance of trying it on another panel and keep the machine going a little longer than now? I would try to see what happened if I kept the machine going longer in order to get enough "heat" to melt the grinds in the polish.

A friend of mine just came by and we're both detailing heads. He asked about 3M's toughest deoxidizer, it wouldn't come off for him either but it's a product you work until you see the haze gone and it clears up.

Good luck, man.

I always keep a spray bottle of water with me while I machine detail a car. Just for those reasons

That is odd, I'd never had that happen when I'm using Menzerna. I wonder if it's moister related/altitude and so on becuase where I'm at I don't get any issues when using my Menzerna....mmm...interesting.

I don't understand why either. I have used it outdoors in almost 90 deg weather, in half sun/half shade. I used it per the instructions......6 inch stripe of Menz on the pad. First time I used it, I added a touch of Optimum Polish to it (per Al-53) and it worked fine. 2nd time on a different vehicle, I just used Menz without the OP and it also worked fine.
Like the others have suggested here....use a spritz of water. Don't use XMT pad conditioner because it'll gum up your pads when using Menzerna. Other than adding a pea-sized drop of OP to your combo, I don't know what else to suggest.

I think if you're using a "fat X" that you're using too much polish on your pads. Are your pads caked over?

I've had no problems with IP, but when my friend was using SIP it dried out really fast, but I think his panels were still really hot. Like everyone else says keep a spray bottle handy because it helps a lot.

If you have Clearkote RMG (red machine glaze), add that to your intensive polish (80% intensive polish, 20% RMG). RMG has oils, that seem to extend working time of polishes. I used a minxture of PO106FF/RMG (70/30) on BMW 325 I posted a while ago. Works out great. It should give you working time of polish around 7-8 minutes.

Caked over..hum, they are white. if i use any less it will dry as soon as i spead it. the car is cool to the touch, and its colder than room temp inside the garage. this has never happened with any other polish in similar conditions. personaly, i feel that i should not have to spray it with watet on it, it should not have to do any thing to it, it should work out of the box. the IP is the worst one for me, it starts drying after 40sec, the nano goes longermore like 2min+

If you don't feel you should be doing anything (RMG, water spritz, less product), why are you asking for help. Here's a tip, DON'T USE IT!!! Go back and use the stuff that you know will work.

Have you done any searches on the forums for others with the same problem, if there are any?

Joy...I used SIP yesterday with both wool pads and foam pads on a rotary and a PC and I had no problem like you explained...not that I dout you did...as I seen a few other posts where some had same experience as you....

What pads did you use...cut and make...and what speed were you using...speed 5 works perfect for menz..6 just sorta flashes it to fast...

Also I believe Menz says not to spray any pad lube type products on the bottle....not real sure but I may have seen it .....

spraying water with some polishes and compounds reduces the lube and actually makes it cut different...I know Poorboys is one of them...

I tried XMT pad lube with Menz once..and it was a nightmare...gummed and I had polish balls all over the paint....I need to read the bottle again to see about spraying the pads

well menzerna does not seem to turn clear like the xmt polishes.

I use IP, Micro and FPII and they all finish to an oily clearness.

I am using a festool 150 on speed 5(out of 6) its around 5400 opm.for my pads i am using the free 5.5 inch light cutting pad(orange). the reason that i want to continue using menzerna is because they are suppose to have the finest abrasives on the market.

try dropping the speed to 4....just curious....and see if that helps any....The festool is suppose to have the balls of the UMD and the recommended speed of the UMD for regular corrections is 4...the festool has a fixed plate with no free rotaion like a PC I believe....so its sorta like a direct drive....

So try the 4 and see if that helps....I had dusting on Menz a month back..and I just added a drop of Opt polish and worked great....gave a longer work time and cut the dust to almost Nil....just a pea size....and 2-3 pea sizes of menz...

you are putting 2-3 pea sizes of polish on your pads'??? i will try 4, and the festool has 2 modes, direct drive driven forced orbital with spin, and just orbital with little spin. and it has bigger balls than the UDM, the UDM has 4.2 amps.. the festool has 6, also the festool has a "brain" it boosts the power as you apply more pressure to maintain the speed.

Joy..here is a Pic of the amount I use....this is a 5" pad....I use 2-3 drops of menz and 1 Opt polish..just have 1 to show size.....
