Need help removing Tar

Goof off, if that does not work try heavy duty clay. Might even be road paint, which is a hard deal to remove.

Tried good off with no success unfortunately. Didn't even make a dent. Also tried medium grade clay which is the heaviest I have on hand. I need to re-up.

Maybe xyolene that's a step up from thinner,do you have a pressure washer,if so blast it off

Becareful with that texture doesn't look like its been clear coated .

After talking with the owner about it and potential costs associated with continuing to work on it he has told me just to leave it. He said he tried to remove it years ago and had another detailer try a while ago as well with no luck.

I do appreciate all the help though guys! If I have extra time I may try some of the other suggestions free of charge just cause I'm curious now!

Little late in the thread here, and know you talked to the owner about not going further, but looking at the pic and the usual methods to get rid of the stuff, it would seem if it is really tar? In a way it almost looks like gum. As mentioned maybe a plastic razor. The concern is if it's that adhesive, it would peal the paint off with it when trying to remove. Frustrating i know.

No matter what aggressive method you use its gonna need polished out. There are so many way to get that off seems like you're timid if not comfortable leave it alone.and the paint can withstand a lot of abuse which ever method you pick ,is it tar or cement?

Yes I'm aware of this and the tolerances of automotive paint. Thank you for your condescending tone though. I've dealt with many cars having tar and road paint on them and have had zero issues removing it.

It's not a matter of being timid. Today is my birthday is today and since I'm late on this project by wasting time messing with whatever it is, I'm having to finish the car instead of enjoying my day off.

To those that helped me thank you. I'm going to hit it once more before coating the car with a plastic razor and thinner and see if it helps.

I'll be trying to use a plastic razor once I'm done polishing. I used my nail at first with no success. It doesn't seem to chip off. It's one of those things that seems to be more trouble than it's worth haha.

Ok I broke down and just wet sanded it off. Didn't do the textured side skirt though.

The best product I have found for tackling tar is Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover... This is the only turtle wax brand product in my shop, but I aware by it! Spray it on, let it soak for 3-5mins, come back and wipe away! I've tried several products like Trix or TarX and have never had the luck that I have with Turtle Wax Bug & Tar. Almost all local auto parts stores or walmart carry it.

I have used that before and like it quite a bit. Unfortunately I actually tried it (as well as a few other solvent/big&tar sprays first and none of them did anything. Sadly no dice in this particular situation. Owner just swung by to see the car though and check progress and was happy with the final outcome of the tar/cement/paint/whatever the hell it was!

I once got a call from a guy with a brand new silver accord,he ran over a bottle of plumbers dye,it was purple and there was nothing that could be done I tried wet sanding it with 800 grit didn't even lighten up ,took everything possible out of my van and nothing worked ,he had to paint the door he gave 75 dollars for trying though.
