Thanks Mike!
I read all 22 pages of the thread and I read your write-up several times, so I feel like I'm ready to jump in.
One question though. Should I still use a terry cloth towel since my paint isn't heavily oxidized or should I use microfiber?
Definitely use a clean, soft microfiber applicator pad. We carry a number of these on the AG store if you need them. The terrycloth rubdown is only for paint in bad condition. Use foam and microfiber for paint in good condition. Microfiber is more aggressive than foam. Down the road you can switch over to just foam applicator pads. Use the microfiber to start with to provide just a tick of gentle cleaning.
I clayed it a little last night and I'm going to finish up the rest tonight, then start with #7.
That car is a goldmine. Take care to detail every inch inside and out. If you need any help with the interior, wheels, tires, glass or engine just start a dedicated thread.
After rubbing her down with the #7 apply a thin coat of Pinnacle Liquid Souveran. Let it dry for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then remove it and notice how glossy the paint looks. How slick it feels and now easy this wax is to wipe off.
This is just one of 9 cars I used for my last 3-detailing class. It started out looking like this,
Holograms
Besides the circular swirl scratches you can also see the tale-tale signs of holograms from the misuse of a rotary buffer.

After machine polishing and then applying Pinnacle Liquid Souveran, here are the results....
1950 Ford Custom
DP Waterless Wash
Pinnacle Ultra Fine Poly Clay
Cyclo Polisher with Pinnacle Advanced Compound
Cyclo Polisher with Pinnacle Advanced Finishing Polish

That's how car paint should look.
You can get the paint on this old Ford looking the same way. People will be blown away by how nice the paint looks.
