So i live in the Northeast and car takes a bit of a beating (not garaged) I have never used a sealant but based on research done here it looks like the better option. What are the best suggestions for a sealant (I just bought a griots DA 6inch) - is it better to apply by machine or by hand -

Collinite 845 might be a good one for you to look at.

I usually apply by hand, except for four star upp. I have a designated gray pad for that.

With that handle it's a little difficult to figure out what your name is!

I live in the Northeast too, Rehoboth Ma to be exact, where do you call home?

OK, I have three sealants I like.

  • Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Paint Sealant
  • Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0
  • Poorboy's EX-P Paint Sealant

These all work very well and I use them on my own vehicles. The sealants today are mostly a synthetic formula and will give most if not all Carnauba waxes a run for their money any day of the week. I generally topcoat the sealer with something like Collinite 845 or Pinnacle Liquid Souveran. I apply all my sealants and waxes with a Porter Cable 7424 polisher using either a blue or red foam pad.

DP Poly-Coat has been very durable for me down here in FL. It's also super easy to apply and remove. Furthermore, it's quite reasonably priced.

Edit: Didn't even notice. It's actually BOGO right now. I'd get some more, but I already have two bottles!

Thanks Guys

BOBBYG - actually out on Long Island and am applying to a new Avalanche (Black)

I like Ultima Paint Guard Plus, very easy to use.

I just used this for the first time the other day and I'm extremely impressed. After polishing a car out, there is nothing better than not having to buff off the LSP! :xyxthumbs:

Stuff is SLICK too, one of the slickest I've used. Repels dirt/dust like a charm and can be applied to a whole car in about 10 minutes.

Ultima is awesome

What durability do you guys see out of UPGP? I have one sitting on the shelf and have yet to use it... Detailer's addiction of course :)

to the OP, if you want pop and depth of shine for BLACK cars, I suggest UPGP or WGDGPS. Durability is just ok. If you want durability, then Collinite 476. It's not a sealant (it's pure carnauba), but will last you months, throughout winter. If it MUST be a sealant, then Powerlock or KSG.

I've been using the UPGP and get about 90 days out of it here in the Northwest winters. They say up to 6 months but I just don't see it when the weather is tough. I'm going to compare it to the Rejex and see how that goes. I have yet to try the DP poli coat.:buffing:

correction to my earlier posts (can't edit it)... to the OP, I meant for pop and depth of shine, I suggest 4StarUPP and NOT UPGP (haven't used that yet). Sorry about that.

I owe it all to you, killr... you first introduced this to me last year. Been using it since. I don't think any other sealant (not nuba) can match it on black. Powerlock comes close...

I love Menzerna Power Lock but maybe I should give this one a try...

I've noticed that you have a yellow vette... I have only used UPP on black cars (I have all 3 black cars lol..) so I can't speak for how good it will look on yellow. All I know is (and killr can back me up) UPP looks amazing on black. It's the best looking sealant I know, on black. Gives it depth and glow, and makes flakes pop like crazy. It also doesn't look like a traditional sealant in terms of "hard candy"... which is a good thing for me. It also is quite slick and easy to apply/remove (not at all like my 845 issues in the other thread... HAHA).

Killr, can you back up the UPP claims on other colors other than black?

3 layers of UPGP got a client of mine 6 months, and his car is outside 24/7. Its so easy to use, that you just add another layer 2-3 times a year.

How's depth of shine and gloss compared to any other sealant out there??? Any other ones you've used so far to compare?
