So I installed a AEM cai today and near redline I am getting alot of resonance/vibration throughout the car. I can even feel it in my gas pedal. Along with the roar of the intake, I can hear a buzzing sound.

What could be the cause of this?

Do you hear it when stationary, driving, or both? My experience with CAI's is they drop down to one of the front corners of the engine bay, sometimes that results in you having to remove some of the old factory piping or even some other factory trim pieces to make room. Is it a possibility that something is loose and from the wind while driving and the combination of the air getting pulled in your getting a "fluttering"? Also I would recheck all the parts where you have hose clamps or connections. Make sure they are all tight and make sure your MAF sensor is secured down as well. Because it does it only close to redline suggests its more to do with the intake vs something else but you cannot assume anything when your not 100% sure where to start. After rechecking all your fittings and if you cannot figure it out, take some pictures and post. It would be easier for us to visualize and understand and maybe help you figure out what might be causing it.

One other thing, whenever you install perfomance items on your car, especially intakes, it messes with your a/f ratio. Your computer needs to relearn and make adjustments accordingly. Sometimes companies suggest you yank the negative battery terminal for about 10 min so the computer can reset and learn the new parameters quicker... just another idea.

Most after market cai don't require a tune. Did you disconnect the negative battery terminal before you did the install? I would put the stock intake back on and see if you can reproduce the problem and if you can you better get it to the dealer because you have another problem on your hands.

Its a 2005 Nissan Altima 3.5SE

It never did this with the stock intake. I followed the AEM instructions and the battery was unplugged the whole time. It doesnt do it at idle or when cruising. Once I hit the gas, its fine until I get around redline when the vibrations start.

I wonder if the CAI itself is vibration against something in the engine bay?

How would I know if I need a tune?

I'm not sure about those cars. you might have lucking searching a dedicated forum like: http://www.altimaforums.net/garage-f95.html

those guys should be able to tell you.

It also wouldn't hurt to go over teh intake and make sure everything feels secure.

I posted on a nissan forum that I belong to. But they are always slow to respond there. Only one person has chimed in.

Ill try altima forum though.

My guess is that your Air to Fuel Ratio is slightly off at the higher RPM's as others have said.

The A/F ratio can be off but the other thing is the exhaust. When you get more air coming in your computer gives more fuel to compensate. This will in turn give more exhaust flow. If the exhaust system cannot handle the extra flow strange things can happen. What ever you force thru the intake must get out some where.

Another small update. Drove some more. It actually seems to happen at exactly 5k rpms, after that it tapers off till redline(6.5k rpms).

Hey guys, I think I may have solved the issue. I noticed that the pipe was very close to the fender metal. Like less than a quarter inch. I loosened the rubber flex tubes and shifted it around and now there is much more space. I also added a rubber washer to where it mounts on the vibration damping screw thing, to separate the nut from the dampener.

The vibrations are now mostly gone, I can hear a little rattle in my compartment, but it is overall much better now.
