Need help with results from XMT

I'll also ad that they may very well be unremovable w/o a rotary. Some swirls don't look bad or deep, when in fact they are almost like tiny indents shaped like "v". I've had times where the main swirls were fairly easy to get rid of, but there always remained a few marks/lines, and even with Opitmum Compound and a yellow or green Edge cutting pad I just could not get them to budge on speed 6, even tried with a 4" Edge cutting pad. Try XMT 3 witha cutting pad and see what happens.

This is true. The PC can only do so much. It really does not do paint correction. This is what a rotary does with heat along with abrasives. The PC wears the edges down on the scratch to make is less noticeable.

I need a rotary, I looked at our Lincoln the other night under the lights, ughhh, I was only able to get about 80% of the swirls out and I spent two days going over the car with Opitmum Compound on a cutting pad, and then Opitmum Polish. @$@$%$@!@! hard clear coat:mad: lol. Silver looks great to pry anybody else, but I notice the marks and it irritates me lol.

Wow this topic is perfect because I'm having the same problem. I'm at XMT#3 and orange Edge 2k pad, it got majority of the swirls but not 100%. I was told though that I may be doing to much of an area, if I'm not mistaken it should be a 2 x 2ft area, correct?
I'm going to have to get the measuring tape and measure the exact size untill I get a feel for it.

2x2 ft Your right!

Hmm, if you're a n00b at using the PC ( like I am :) ) it might take you a while to learn the techniques. It varies on alot of things :

- What combo you're using ( what polish on what pad )

- Using the correct pressure

- Allowing the polish to break down

Like other people have suggested, try XMT #3 on an orange pad, then XMT # 1 on a white pad. After this most/all swirls will be gone. If they're not, you might want to try the XMT Finishing Glaze to hide existing imperfections. It's all about the right technique!

Good luck with everything. :)

6LS2, i posted previously what combos I was using and the amout of time that I was allowing the product to break down. I did everything correctly, however, the combo just wasn't strong enough. Yesterday I went to my local "Driver's Seat" and picked up XMT3, so we will see how that goes.

Drivers Seat...you must live in South FL? I live in Boca, theres one near me on Glades Rd.

Sure do... exactly where you're from in Boca Raton. That store's not too bad, the staff seem to have a pretty decent knowledge of things...

Cool, I'd help you today but I'm recupperating from last night:o, what type of car is it, that may point out whether the clearcoat is hard or soft which can make a big difference.

hehe, got ya. its a white diamond pearl 2000 Acura TL. I did XMT3 twice today and same minimal difference from yesterday with the XMT2. I guess my next step is yellow pad...

Try the yellow pad with some decent pressure, when you hear the PC bogging down let off a little and try to stay at that same pressure. That way the pad will be doing it's work and really working in the polish. Though most likely it's marring that only a rotary can get out.

TL, have you had any issues with your trans? We got my sister an TL-Type S back when they came out, that thing just ate threw trannies. What school do/did you go to? I went to Boca High, and graduated from Lynn University in 05'.

The scratches seem to be the deeper remains from the spider webbing.

As for my TL, yes, I am on my second transmission, replaced under warranty at 93k miles, hehe. Second generation TLs (99-03) have notorious tranny problems, which destroys their resale value. Oh well, I pretty get a lifetime warranty on the car because of it, lol.

I am currently a Sophmore at FAU. I graduated from Charlotte High in Punta Gorda.

What do you mean by bogging down?

Just that, bogging down lol. Say you have the PC on speed 6 and obviously it's turning very fast. Put pressure on it and you'll feel it bogg down, i.e. you'll notice it spinning a little slower and sounding like it's working harder. That's where the PC's real corrective abilities will come from while breaking down the polish. I'm not talking put your whole body weight into it lol, moreso just enough where you feel/hear it bogg down, then let off a little and try to maintain that pressure, like 10-15lbs maybe?

Okay so here are the results...after reading this last night I went to the garage...um...well I just got back hehehe. I tried Green Edge 2000 pad with XMT #3 and that did it for me, swirl free and no micromarring or hazing for that matter. The combo was so good that I could swear I could go straight to the XMT glaze and then wax. So what I did was experiment, I went even further. The pads I own are Edge 2000 pads. So I did green pad with XMT 3, then orange pad with XMT 2 then blue pad with XMT 1 and the results were....not good, I think it was to much cut for the poor Volvo. So, the next panel all I did was green pad with XMT 3 and then blue pad with XMT 1 and that got rid of all swirls and scratches. Next panel, I did green pad with XMT 3 and even that was good.

Like I said I'm new and I'm experimenting. So XMT is workign out for me...oh so get this...I've beed deailing my Volvo for th past week and I haven't even completed the hood yet hahahaha just taking it slow and trying a bunch of combo...seeing what works for me. Basically taking peoples advise.
