I am trying to design a car wash type system that will allow a linear actuator to run a 1ftX1ft stainless steel case through a series of sand paper flap wheels. There will be two shafts with up to 50lbs on them.

I need to spec a motor to run these two shafts using a pully/v-belt setup. Does anyone know what kind of AC motor I should be looking for? The wheels are 3 inches wide and 6 inches in diameter. They are speced for 6000 rpm but doesn't this seem way to high? I have heard buffing stainless steel only requires around 150 rpm.

Any suggestions?

My answer now is the same as it was the last time you made a thread here:

For an automated process like that you're probably looking for industrial-grade machinery along the same lines as a CNC machine; I would suggest looking to a supplier of that sort of equipment for guidance.

A detailing forum like this isn't really going to be able to help much if you're not looking for manual polishing/buffing techniques.

I am simply looking for the suggested rpm to run a sand paper flap wheel 3" wide and 6" in diameter to polish stainless steel
