need help with scratch removal

Just find a local detailer from this site to help you with the scratch, Flex/PC would help you maintain it after he fix. :D

no doubt the flex is a superior machine with more power, at the time i read the thread i thought it was funny how it was worded, just grab a flex, no problem, everyone has the extra money laying around....

i still think if it can be removed without damaging the the clear then a pc would beable to do it...if not, a rotary in the hands of a pro will get it down far enough, but i still believe the clear will be compromised....

No matter what method you use you are going to be removing some clearcoat inorder to remove or lessen the scratch. Thats why you use the least aggressive polish and pad combo.Heck 105 by hand does a really good job to start. But with all that said we haven't even seen a picture of the scratch to really get better picture of the deepth .To better determine what steps may need to be done. But if he is willing to purchase a machine .He should by the better unit if he can afford it as it will make it easier to maintain the finish for the long term.

Thanks for all the input. Here is what I am thinking at this point. I am going to get a polisher because it will be used to maintain at least 3 vehicles. I will start with a less agressive polish and pad, and see where I need to go next. Do not want to get too deep into the cc. In the end, since this is a daily driver, I may need to learn to accept a very slight imperfection. Thanks again.

I used this guide for scratch removal
Repairing Paint Chips & Scratches

I found someone had put a scratch about 7 inches on my truck. It was nasty looking to with paint chips and peels on the edges. It looked like it had gone through the clear and the paint down to the metal (lucky for me it didn't go that deep.)

I masked off the area around it and wet sanded with 2500 grit to smooth it down. I used a PC and made a few passes over it with Menz SIP then followed up with Menz 106 over the whole panel. It buffed out quite nicely. It was easier since the truck was white and didn't show imperfections as much as other colors.

Yes, there was clear coat removal but the other option is to take it to a body shop for a repaint. I kept a few coats of KSG and wax on it to delay paint failure. I traded the truck in a few months ago and the dealership never balked when I asked for more on the trade in value.

look, if its a scratch you can catch your finger nail on, then starting with the least agressive polish/pad combo is going to be waisting your time....

i would start with a white pad and some swirl remover....set the speed to 5 and put some pressure on the machine to the point that you can hear the machine start to slow down and then back off just enough to get the machine to run wide open....then bump it to speed 6 and repeat....

this is for a udm or pc....
