Need Help With Swirls on a New Black Truck :(

Yes. Handles on both sides. Strictly orbital motion. I'll look into the PC. Just scared of harming the clear. Maybe I'll try and get one on Saturday. Anyone know if HQ is going to be open?

Don't worry about harming the clear.

I had the same fear the first time I used my DA on one of our cars. However, I'd followed the advice of many folks here and got great results. When using a foam pad on a DA with reasonable products, you'd be hard pressed to damage the vehicle.

Went to cars and coffee and learned ALOT. Mike Phillips was very patient and answered all my millions of questions. Can't say thanks enough. Bought a porter cable and some polish Mike recommended from pinnacle. Got all my swirls out and the truck looks brand spankin new. Now let me shut up and show some pics!

Cool. Love a success story. When I saw your fear of using a DA, I was going to send you a couple of the Junkman's videos showing how easy it was to use a PC for the novice that would've alleviated your fears. Glad Mike set you straight. Now, we can expect to see many posts from you on what products to buy to maintain your new vehicle. Are you ready to spend more money? (haha!)

Too late for spending $$$. Just ordered a bunch of stuff. Pinnacle paint coating etc.... I'm going to make a slow switch from zaino to wolfgang aswell. Already have a ton of money invested in zaino. The DA was actually very easy to use. Mike gave me a crash course and that was all I needed. :buffing:

As you folks all know, the Rotary isn't bad per se, but we all basically know virtually 100% of all dealers could monkey wrench a wet dream in short order, Dodge Ram, or a Porsche Panamera, wouldn't make much difference, would it?

Usually some old filthy beat up machine, looking like Columbus brought it over on the Santa Maria, with an old filthy worn out beat to hell Poly-Wool Pad that's buffed (and monkeyed) 400+ vehicles before yours.

Yep, just grab that ole 15 year old screwdriver, and spur away!

(I'm hearing Mike P's words ringing in my head right now, "Work clean work clean", and of course they don't.)

I've come to believe dealers do this on purpose, hoping they suck you back in for some other follow-up nasty detail-job, on your dime.

One usually never sees showroom vehicles look like that though, how come? For those few, maybe they do wisely hire a 3rd party detailer that comes in who knows what he's doing?

Most larger new car dealers also have dentless paint repair guys come in too, as they know such vehicles as lease returns, or relatively new trade ins won't move very well peppered with shopping cart dents.

I just "love" dealers!

Here's two of my far past buys, a new black '94 Town Car, had light scratches right in the middle of the hood. Spotted them, the dealer offered to buff them out. "Oh no, I told them, I'm leaving right now, don't need you folks for such. Took the next day off work (good move it was) out came rotary with new pad, polishes, the scratches were gone in about 60 seconds.

Fresh coat of Megs #20, and the car looked like a black mirror.
(was a great car, I miss it, smoooooth!)

Or my '86 flame red metallic TA, the dealer was getting ready to put a front license plate bracket on what was a cool looking clean nose. I told em "nope, no way".

Five minutes later, I walk in the back to the shop to check on them prepping, and there was the goon, drill in one hand, and the License Plate Bracket in the other.

I'm yelling "whoa whoa, where you think you're going with that"?
"Oh, to put on the front of your car"!

Yeah, I told him, you out that on the car, you;ve just canceled a $19,000 sale I told him.

His reply "Oh, you'll get a ticket without it" (Gibs me state of Ill)
I told him "You let me worry about that, and give me that damn bracket right now! LOL

Hate dealers with a passion.

Been through all that. Even got a confession that if they want a good detail, they send it out. LMAO.

My used black metallic had an obvious repair paint job on the back bumper--blended. But, there was a flat (non-gloss) spot about 6" around. I told them leave it alone since they hadn't corrected it the first time around.

My rotary with Evercoat Medium then Light compounds blended that, followed by Evercoat Machine Glaze (removes 2500 scratches usually). On to Scratch-x, polish, DG 105 and it's fine. The only ting now--with all that gloss--I see some minute solvent pops in their "repair job." probaly quick clear with fast flash reducer and too fast finishing.
