Hello fellow Geeks!

My sisters Honda Accord is a piece of crap. Im not sure of the year, but I would guess an early 2000 model. Regardless it is a terrible lemon and she needs a new car. She was thinking by the end of the month, but I guess it was giving her more trouble today so she is thinking even earlier.

She wants a newish(newer the better obviously) crossover style car. She says that she has 5k for a downpayment and she wants to spend no more than 23k total. She was talking about Hyundai Santa Fe's, Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4 etc. Those types of cars.

Can anyone give me any advice so I can advise her on what she should get versus what to avoid. Specfic models and years would be appreciated. I dont think she really cares what brand or any special features. Just a newer realiable crossover.

Thanks in advance!

The KIA's and Hyundai are the same manufacturer and are much better than they used to be. My wife drives a 2009 Kia Sportage. Have not had any problems to date. We keep it maintained

Re: Need immediate advice(Urgent!) - sister needs new car

Thank you. So I just heard she might be so desparate as to get one today. Oh lord haha.

So she is coming by in like 15 minutes. Need very urgent advice!

You can't really go wrong with a Honda or Toyota. They're pretty much bulletproof as long as you maintain them at regular intervals. The Rav4 can get a lot pricier than the crv once the options start adding up so that's something you should look out for.

I know that sme may throw something back, but The escapes are great reliable vehix. They are used constantly for fleet cars by a lot of companies. You can bang out some miles on them and absolutely drive the tires off of them. Also bigger yet good motors are the edges. i am not a ford man but know alot of ford owners. The edge has a great ride and motor = for size. If you like mazda same sizes, cx7, and 5. just some other ideas. good luck.

i second honda and toyota...

although, hyundai/kia is very respectable too...they are top rated in consumer reports

Subaru is the top rated small SUV then comes the RAV then the CRV. Kia and Hyundai are down the list. You do know that she can get a Mini Cooper without the turbo for under 23k.

I leased an 09 nissan rouge, was an awesome crossover. It would make a great preowned.

Ford Edge. Mom has a 2009 approaching 50k miles with no issues thus far. I absolutely love driving the darn thing. Quick, quiet, and rides and handles like a car. Has an Infiniti FX'ish exhaust note too. Get's decent MPG considering its weight, 17-18 city and 24-26 hwy.

2009-2010 would likely be good years if she doesn't want all the technology updates the 2011's and up recieved, My Ford Touch. 2006-2010's have the Duratec 3.5 with iVCT and the 2011's and up have the second gen with TiVCT.

:iagree: I had an 02, I beat the holly hell out of it and it ran fine.

Had 3 Chrysler 300's (HEMI C,limited, current SRT Series) and the first 2 had 287K and 305K on the OD and never had a hitch with any of them (normal wear items brakes, tires, ball joints replaced) ;)
I think most vehicles these days are safe and will last several hundred thousand miles with proper PM and upkeep thou :)

Unless your year is a typo, I think you're confusing the Edge with the Escape. Also, had an 02 Escape as well which was replaced by the Edge.:xyxthumbs:

She just came home with a 2012 Honda CRV in white. Only has 152 miles on it.

I checked the paint in the street light and it looks pretty good. Gonna need to strip it though to see if there is anything hidden. I plan to opti-coat it for her.

Unfortunetly the dealership offers free car washes for life. Which is good for her, but bad for the paint. She will never ever wash it herself or have it waxed. So I might as well get something permanent on it while the paint is still nice.
