I need some help in my old age with math (which I might have to use concerning my car crash on June 30th)

Here's the math question:

A car is traveling 40 Mph. At that speed, how many feet will it travel in 5 seconds? I know there are 3,600 seconds in an hour and 5,280 feet in a mile. What's the formula? Or, better, what is the answer.

Thanks folks

Toto

type
"40mph to feet/second" in google.

I think you can take it from there :) if not, the answer is
58.6666 feet per second.
Multiply by 5

= 293.3333 feet.
I could be wrong....anyone else? BTW, google is the best thing since sliced bread

Bossboy is right on with the answer. Here's the formula.
5,280 feet per mile. Doing 40 of those in 1 hour (40mph). 5,280 X 40=211,200 feet in an hour.
3,600 seconds in an hour
211,200 feet divided by 3,600 seconds= 58.666 feet per second.
5 seconds is 58.67 feet/sec. X 5 seconds = 293.3 feet

Do you have a legal battle Toto???? Hope things are going OK with your BMW.

nope, you are right on.

40M/H (1H/3600S)= 0.111111111111111111111 or 1/90 miles per second

(1/90)M/S(5280 feet in a mile) = 176/3 F/S

5s (176f/3s)= 293.333 or 880/3 feet

this would be easier if I could use math type

remember about standard deviations when calculating proposed real world experiences from interpreted data-there is always a range-especially about tire skidding etc...

Thanks everyone! Jimmie: it might be taking the shape of a legal battle. I have 2 witness's that said the light was green when I started out and 1 witness that said I started to go while our light was red "and the other was yellow"...doesn't work that way, but the other driver's insurance company wants to investigate. That particular light has a 4 second yellow sequence plus a 1 second red before the opposing light turns green. So, the other driver had a total of 5 seconds before my light turned green to stop or clear the intersection.

Again, thanks folks. I'm just trying to gather some facts and figures if this turns into a legal battle.
