and its been about 6 months and i think its ready for a buffing, but iv heard and read so many diff versions, u wet sand with this, buff with that pad, use this compound to remove this, wow its confusing.

My question is could someone explain how would i start this process, i know i need to wet sand the entire vehicle down, but i dont know what grit, i do have a nice layer of orange peel, and i applied 4 layers of clear, now after i wet sand i know the buffing begins.

I was thinking on buying the Porter Cable 7424 but i didnt know what kit would fit me and my situation, which i was hoping maybe some of you guys could help me with, since the car seasion is here.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I usually start with 2000 and see if it gets rid of the orange peel. Afterwards I evaluate the sanded section and see if I need to go to 1500 or resand with 2500. FYI, I use 2500 after 2000 because I didn't get 3000.:D

Meguiar's carries an excellent line of automotive sandpaper. Check them out at the AG store.

Did you also need info on what to use for buffing afterwards? If you're thinking about getting the Porter Cable 7424, consider the Flex 3401. True, it's more expensive, but it has a lot more correcting ability compared to the 7424.

Thanks for the help man, for sand the car down with about 2000, see the results and if u need more work then go back down with 1000-1200, then proceed with 2000-2500. gotcha

After the wetsand is complete then i can start the buffing process with the porter or with the flex right.

Now i toke a look at the price for both n the porter is deff within my limits wail the flex is out there lol, how would the end result look with the porter then if i was to use the flex??

Also what would the porter do that the flex would beat? just because i have about $200 bucks to spend on the buffer and the rest of the equipment such as compound, pads, etc.

so thats y i think the porter would fit me for now,but what kit would you guys recommend, since i really dont know much n yet heard soo many diff ways.

Thanks again for the help :)

If 2000 doesn't do the trick, try 1500 before going down to 1000-1200.

The PC works fine. The Flex just has more correcting ability. I've used the PC for years before getting the Flex. If you stick with 5.5" pads or smaller, the PC will work very well. 4" pads work great with the PC. :buffing:

great, thanks for the info, now that we got the wetsanding down, what kit should i get for the porter to start with ?

Now as i see the kits, they all come with 6.5 pads and your saying 4-5.5inch pads are best, is there a kit that would come like that ?

also which kit would you recommend for both porter with pads and compunds such as the Total Swirl Remover 3.0

When I bought my PC a few years ago, I got it at the local Lowe's. I did notice AG carries a couple of kits with the 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. You should probably check them out. Personally, I'm not big on kits because they tend to give you things you don't need. As far as polishes and compounds go, I'm a big fan of Menzerna's line of polishes.

Should you decide on using Mernzerna polishes, this chart should help you with which polishes might work for you:

Menzerna Polishing Compounds Products, menzerna polishes, menzerna car polish, menzerna nano polish, menzerna final polish, menzerna compound,

I'm also a big fan of Meguiar's polishes. I've used M105 (get M205 also if you get M105. It'll finish down a lot nicer than M105. I haven't tried M205, but I heard great things about it.)and Ultimate Compound and they are awesome. I just recently spot wetsanded my wife's car (2000 grit, then 2500) and used Ultimate Compound with my Flex to finish it down. I probably should have used an additional finishing polish, but it was late, the car was SS white and it was my wife's car, so I left it at that.:D I'll probably finish it up next weekend.

I'm surprised nobody has chimed in. Maybe the wetsanding questions scared them off?;)

you know i did notice what you sayd was true, that most of those kits come with stuff i dont need, thats y i ask b4 i buy :)

i will do some research on what you posted and i'll post my finds.

thanks for all your help man,i'll post back

Anytime. Is the Civic an Si model? Any mods to the engine? Besides being a obsessive detailer, I like adding stuff to my Prelude. I really, really, really want a supercharger, but they don't make it for them anymore.

lol at the moment i only have the exterior done but its a ex model. In about 3 or 4 months im planing on buying a h22 w/ trani swap and doing the conversion my self, havnt done so because i dont have money :), its my everyday car yet its my biggest toy hahaha

My Prelude has the H22 engine. It is one sweet motor. I love kicking the rpm's up to 5K just to hear the VTEC kick in.

The Civic you have is a great model for upgrades. My friend has a 2000 Civic Si. I drove it a couple of times and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, he let the car go to hell. It was so nice too.:(
