Need some recommendations for garage lighting

Not so sure about Lumens as I threw the box away but it says "30W LED" at the back.

Edit: According to Ace hardware website:
30 watt
2400 Lumens
Compact design
Steel
12 ft. 18'3 SJTW cord
Rainproof rated (IP545 rated)
Premium Bridgelux COB LED
No replacement bulb needed - rated at 100,000 hours of continuous use
LED lamp remains cool to the touch

Awesome, thanks for the specs!

Over the years, I did some "what I call stupid stuff", but it worked.

The overhead lights with my then Door Opener Lights were pathetic. I used at one time simple screw in adapters for the two incandescent lights, converting them to a 2-prong plug. Then ran brighter lights, higher than 60 watts.

Then from there, other things happened with lighting, and did things as simple, painless, and inexpensive as I possibly could.

Those that are wishing to go to professional detailing, well the costs mount. And very quickly!

I could probably spend-invest $8K-$10K in a heartbeat with tools, and that's just here, living amongst the "tumbling tumbleweeds" of New Mexico.

And that wouldn't include a proper large garage-building structure to do such in. add another $10K

Dual 4' flourescents have been $10 for many years, just used to come with bulbs. 10 will light up a 2 car bay nicely. Most of mine are thutty yar old, just replace bulbs and the occasional ballast.

Now there are screw in CFCs that put out the light of a 300W incandecent. Two 20W in a dual ceiling fixture (or a garage door opener) are good for lighting storage areas.

And now we are getting high powered LEDs.

Am starting to feel that Orlando is getting a bit crowded. Thinking about moving out a bit but there are just so many amenties here (live 10 minues from "restaurant row" & International drive but is still outside the city).

Crowded ain't the word!

I've been to Orlando Fla a few times. It's a goddamn dump! Plain and simple.
Right in line with Miami, wouldn't live there either for all the tea in China.

It's hotter than Hades in summer, humidity like the Vietnam jungles, and not a freekin breeze to be had on that inland cesspool. Way too many turds, and crime, takes an hour to commute from one end of the city to another.

Get out of there ASAP. Move to a gulf shore town, Venice, Sannibel Island, etc.

Mother lived in Venice for 23 years. And I vacationed there for 23 years. A hell of a lot nicer than that dump Orlando.

Personally like Cedar Key and thinking about an acre or five west of 75 near Gainesville.

Keep in mind that when I built my house here thutty yar ago, it was on the southwest side in the county (still in county but grown up a bit).

Also that I grew up in Florida & like it (the low humidity of western states gives me a sore throat in the mornings. Also humid air in the 90s is easier to AirCon than dry air in the 100s.

Finally we put up with 100 days of summer for 265 that are just nice. Air is clean and so is the land. All the rain means lots of green producing oxygen.

Venice may be OK but Sarasota/Bradenton is wall to wall people. Also another hour or two to reach the border when driving elsewhere

Another reason was that I was 20 minutes from a World class airport & for the first 20 years travelled constantly (last 10 I telecommuted, now am retired).

A real consideration was that things do not rust here (grew up on coast where things did), cost of living is low, no income tax, and anything you can think of is available here, often for less than elsewhere (natives and seniors get impressive discounts).

So thinking about moving but north and west a bit along the I-75 corredor. Will probably buy some land first but for now, Cars and Coffee is a straight shot & about 120 miles at 70ish.

Meanwhile back at lights ? How difficult depends on how your garage is built and whether there is a crawlspace above it. For example how is you garage door opener wired ? (Are rarely on GFCIs because motor loads trip them). If ceiling is drywall with a crawlspace above and your electrical load center is in the garage then probably easy to fish 10 ga Romex down and install in an unused 20A circuit breaker slot. Then run to an appropriate spot for the first light in the ceiling and add a duplex outlet. Use screws in studs to hang the 4' fixtures and daisy chain.

Other configurations may lend to different answers but remember: Where there's a will, there's a lawyer.

Yeah I've never messed with electrical wiring before and I'm not sure if I want to fiddle with it. The garage door has some wires sticking out on both sides where the door slides up and down, and the motor is plugged into an outlet that's on the ceiling. There's also a crawlspace above the garage but I haven't really looked at all the wiring. The house is only two years old but the whole issue with the GFCI outlet (with two plugs) is bugging me. The garage door might be pulling in too much power or the wiring is faulty. Who knows?

Yeah I think I'm going to make a custom work light from one of the DIY garage lighting threads. It seems pretty legit and the light shows EVERYTHING according to some of the forum members. 8-10K is overkill. I'm thinking $100-200 is good enough haha
