I've got a 2006 black pathfinder. I have had since about December and I have yet to wax it. I have just been washing it. So now I'm looking to do a little more this time and make the car look like brand new again. What should I be looking at to get? I was thinking getting the Klasse kit and use Mothers Reflection advance car wax. Would that be okay to use? I'm looking for any suggestions and feedback on products. It would be appreciated. Thanks

First you need to clay the car. I recommend using the same brand clay and clay lube. The clay lube will provide more lubrication as opposed to a quick detailer. Using soap and water could dry the clay out.

Next you need your swirl remover/ polish. I recommend using Poorboys SSR1 and or SSR2.5. Or Pinnacle XMT # 1, 2, or 3. I say and or because when using the SSR2.5 or XMT # 2 or 3, you need to go over that with the SSR1 or XMT #1.

After your polish, you can apply a Glaze. Some good glazes are XMT Glaze or Clearkote Vanilla Moose Wax Hand Glaze.

Last you need a "protection coat." The protection coat is usually Carnauba Wax. Itll give your paint a very nice shiny wet look. However, the longest itll last it two months depending on weather and driving conditions. Some good Carnauba waxes are DP Max Wax, Natty's Paste Wax Blue, or Souveran Paste $$$, or Liquid Souveran.

Instead of the Carnauba wax, you could go with a sealant. However, a lot of sealants wont bond well when applied over a glaze. They also wont give you the same shine as Carnauba, but itll last a lot longer.

If you're using a PC, be sure to check out these vids, http://www.autogeek.net/po.html

the first question you need to ask yourself, is how often do you plan on "waxing" your new truck. With black it is imperative that you wash "carefully" weekly, and then decide on plan for further detailing.

Sealant -- synthetic wax, will last longer. Consider Klasse Twins, Wolfgang, DP Sealant, or even Poorboys EXP. Likely to detail every 2-3 months.

Wax --- natural in makeup with carnauba, Pinnacle, Max Wax, and Nattys Blue are great choices as is Clearkote Moose Wax. You will detail more often around every 4-6 weeks but might find the look to be more pleasing.

Well usually I wash my car every two-three weeks. Since winter is coming up soon and its going to get colder out maybe i should use wax for the next wash and then a sealant on the last wash before winter. I'll probably get it once or twice during the winter but I won't be doing it myself.

This link will give you alot of really good information on where to start. One of AG's own is a college student and wrote a paper for school about proper car care. You'll have to scroll down a bit but it's a really good read. Read the posts by Neothin. If you are looking for longevity out of your protection product then I would recommend a sealant for you. The Klasse twins will last the longest, but may be a little sterile looking so you will probably want to top it with a good carnauba to give it added depth and wetness. :) I hope this helps you.

:iagree: Good advise. A lot of good products out there. have used a number of them. good over the counter product is Mothers Reflections. Also, Meguiar's #7 Glaze and then #26 wax. Have had good results. Try what you want and if it works stay with it. Just my $.02. Good luck.

Well since winter is almost here maybe I will wax it first and on my last wash I'll use a Sealant. I'll still wash it in the winter but I won't be outside waxing it. Does that sound okay?

sealants are not a bad choice ... very durable. I would highly suggest a good glossy Qd'er for use with them. It will amp them up. Quikshine from Clearkote, and Poorboys Spray and Gloss are easy to use with great results and can be used after each wash also !!

Use sealant first, preferably 2 coats (12hours apart form each other). Then apply a coat or two of carnauba. This will give you the best of both worlds.

P.S. don't use a carnauba, then try to top it off with a sealant. It won't bond to your paint.

:iagree:  Have used sealant on my Acura for years and 2 coats 12hrs apart works. If you use a quality sealant no need to apply a carnauba but you can with no problems an you will have extra protection. Good luck.

The main reason I apply a coat of carnauba, I've noticed that sealant along cannot protect well from bird droppings. That test I've done already on a few cars, and realized that carnauba really needs to be there. And to make sure I'm not overworking myself, I use Souveran paste on my car, and DP Max Wax on other family cars. Very easy on and off application.

I totally agree. I've noticed that too. I always have wax on my car and the bird bombs come right off and don't leave etching where there are a few coats of carnauba.
