Need something for black plastic on mirrors

I have a truck that has these mirrors ( https://puredieselpower.com/images/detailed/24/08towmirrors.jpg ) but my top cap on the mirror is painted. Anyway, I tried Dlux on it, did it as I should etc and I got water spotting and looks dull a bit so Im off to something else.

Questions are:

How do I clean the mirrors and in hopes to remove the Dlux?
What would work that WONT run down the paint when it rains? Ive used Perl but saw that it runs at times.

Any other suggestions?
 
Collinite 845 works very well and has staying power of at least six months.

On another note the plastic on my Dodge never stain or fade. On the Wife's Toyota they are a constant problem and I never found anything that would last including Dlux. The only way I found to remove Dlux involved compunding/polishing.

I've used Meguiars Ultimate Wax (decent results) and Blackfire Total Trim and tire Sealant (better results).

Huh? You said Dlux doesn't last, but then you say the only way to get it off was polishing.... So... lol. I'm lost. If something's so good that you need compound to get it off, doesn't mean it's awesome and it IS lasting?

After some time (depends on how well you preped the surface) Dlux will start to get uneven and reapplying will not even it out. Only way I've found to remove it is to compound it off.
 
+1 on the c4 gtechniq, going strong for 3 months since application

The Dlux lasted but the plastic under did not last as it seemed to still oxidize/water spot at an incredible fast rate. To eliminate the defects I had to remove the Dlux by abrasion. The Wife's Toyota has the strangest plastic I have ever come across.
