neglected silver bimmer

This car is a 7 year old bimmer that spent its first four years outside 24/7 and has been garaged the for the last 3. The owner loves it and was taking quite a ribbing at work especially for his wheels. He was quite proud to tell his co-workers that he was having it detailed. The wheels were terrible. I spent over an hour on them. The clay process was not much better as there was very small surface rust spots all over. The clay did take them out but with considerable effort. The black interior also had white dog hair all over..what a treat that was. All in all, an 11 hour job. He was ecstatic with the results and I'll be doing his wife's black bimmer next.

The process:
wash
clay with clay magic
intensive effort on wheels, in behind as best as I could..not easy with those wheels
rotary with 106ff with white ccs pad
rotary with menz glaze with black ccs pad
FMJ apply/remove by hand
Collinite 476 apply/remove by hand
xmt 360 by hand on wheels
megs endurance on tires
crappy tire shine on wells
303 on exterior black trim
shampoo mats
vac interior
IG on glass
303 on interior

Really like the way you turned it around, she looks good. The nice thing about silver is that it's very forgiving on imperfections.

Buddy..I have learned so much here..I never bothered putting in the stripes before, but you know what?? People really like it..plus it's just so obvious that you cleaned the mats. I have been experimenting on what I like better..the wide or narrow stripes: I think I prefer the wide look.
The scratches?..Oh ya BabY!!! Gonzo, history, outta here. AS IF THEY STOOD A CHANCE WITH MERZERNA! HA HA HA. I gotta work on my photography skills though..I didn't like how some of my pics seemed washed out. I had manually set the aperature for 2.8..next time I'll leave her on auto. I guess you figured it out huh, haha.

The smaller the aperture (smaller #), the more light it lets in, the bigger the aperture (bigger #), the less light it lets in.

Toto..thanks so much..especially coming from you..you are the god of BMW restorations!! Your opinion on these cars means a lot to me. I really like working on them..I think (especially on the black) that the efforts show even more than a regular car..maybe it's my imagination b/c they are so damned nice, they just rock when detailed!

Dan..I've got an old Nikon FG I haven't used in ages..funny how we get lazy and forget these things. I like using a higher # and having the car in focus and everything behind blurry but my digital does not have enough settings for that.

Thanks..regarding the "crappy"..are you Canadian? If so, you would know that is slang for Canadian Tire..it's the Simoniz brand of stuff..this week it's 1/2 off!! I loaded up..great stuff for the wheel wells.

Thanks a lot!! It took a total of 11 hours which is an hour longer than what I figured but claying and the wheels took longer than I expected. I'm so OCD that I won't accept it unless is as good as I can get. I charge $25/hr so it cost him $275.00 He was more than happy to pay it and told me I had a customer for life!:cheers:

Thank you..they took longer than I thought they would, but the time was worthwhile with the finished product. I'm going to try to keep that wider stripe look from now on.
