Negotiating the price on a new car...

Great news, I just managed to get $400 off the car I want! We'll keep going...

I've always had good luck looking on edmunds.com. They have a Prices Paid: Buying & Leasing Forum. They also have links for dealer quotes. Get them to call you. I agree with working with the internet department. They are used to selling over the phone. The traditional car salesman wants to get you down to the dealership to work on you. Also try getting some prices from carsdirect.com. Then be patient enough to wait for them to give you the deal you want.

when I bought my car i was told the same thing. They had gotten them in in that week and the price was the price. I told him I would go to another dearship... they started to move... The other dearship gave me a better price. But when i told them i was leaving everything changed
That is your best bet. They know they have what you want. You have to let them know you found one somewhere else and they are willing to sell it to you at your price. It's a basic supply and demand situation. They know they have what you want. Until they need to hit a sales # at month end or the car has sat on their lot a long time they will wait for some sucker to come along and give them asking price.

I just bought a new car. What I can tell you is this . . .

1. Always buy a car off the lot their more likely to deal on a car they're already paying to hold onto. Sometimes you have to be flexible on options/colors to get the best deal.

2. Shop multiple dealers. If you can get them fighting for your business you'll get the best deal.

3. Always buy on the last day of the month. Magically, the dealer offered me an extra $1K off on my car once the last day of the month rolled around.
