it was destine to be a day of relaxation at home, with the dogs, out of the 105 degree heat.

Sunday was my birthday, so I took monday as a vacation day. A bit of laundry, watch a movie or 2 while working on a few cad designs... easy day.

around noon the dogs all perked up and barked. I didnt hear anything, so told them to relax and lay back down.

and then, things got a bit interesting.

an hour later I hear a vehicle stop, what sounded like in my driveway. I go to the front door to check and see a vehicle parked in an odd location across the street. I step out of the house to see who it is, and i see a black male, late 20's jumping over the back yard privacy fence of the neighbors house.

When I speak, people hear me. I do not yell, just turn my voice volume up enough for people to notice.

"Hey! What are you doing?" as he is straddling the fence.

"I'm getting my dog" he replies
"Really? You think jumping over that fence is the best way to go about that?" i ask.
"He's a little silver shitzu. I think he's in the next back yard. I live just down the street." he claims.

"what street is that?" I asked because 1. the division isnt that large, and 2. it will let me know if he's lying by naming an unknown street. His response was a street name that's a major cross road.
1. not many houses are on that road
2. the closest house on that particular road is over 1 mile away
3. the dog would have crossed a 4 lane highway to get there
4. the dog would have needed super powers to jump over the fence to get into that yard.

It all was foul.

I say "ok", then turned to the house, and grabbed my phone.
My thought was to get to local police on the phone while looking at the tag number of the vehicle.

Upon returning to the yard, the perp. had already speed away. My neighbor a few houses down also witnessed the exchange.

Curiosity got the best of me and I started to look at the house he was at... The back door had been kicked in. I couldnt see this from the first exchange due to a large bush blocking view of the back door.

911 call later, here come the police.
called the neighbor and he comes just a minute after the police response.

looking at things, the house was cased. Back door kicked in, then they fled. *dogs barking round 1*
If no alarm or police after 1 hour, and the door is still open, it's time for taking some goods.

I feel bad for not getting the plate, but have a year/make/model/trim level of the vehicle, along with a description of the would-be thief.

The part that is bothering me the most... I know i've seen the vehicle drive through the neighborhood before. I know i've seen it somewhere else as well. I just cant place it right now.

on my mind.
a bit of insomnia

Crazy story. Way to keep your eyes peeled. Hope they catch him

Man I hate to hear that, but Im glad that no one was hurt and no property was stolen. Your neighbor is lucky that you were there to thwart them off. I can't stand it that some people would steal other peoples stuff they worked hard for. Hopefully they will be caught and prosecuted!

As a current Police Officer I will tell you that you did an awesome job at getting the correct information without putting yourself in harms way. What could of happened if the perp saw you getting his license plate? My advice would be to keep an eye out for the vehicle and reporting anything suspicious to the local PD. what you did in my eyes would definitely help us in putting a case together. Usually these dirt bags have done this before and giving such information can help tremendously. Good job and keep an eye out for anything unusual.

WOW, now thats just crazy to happend right next to you! I hope with what you provided the police they will find these guys! Keep an eye out for them driving around your neighboorhod, most stick to a local area...

A few years ago before my family moved out of the town we grow up in. But before that my family and I (with our 3 dogs) where all watching a movie in the living room. During the movie the dogs all got up and went crazy! Started barking, barking in circles.

Dad (sitting in the LazyBoy) peaks out the front windows and sees nothing; dogs still barking. I go to the back door peak through the small upper window and see a man running across our driveways on to and past our neighbors driveway.

Anways, the guys tried to break into our house while we where all in the house. Not very smart with three big protective dogs haha. So keys points to always remember...

1) Never disregard your animals actions when their not acting normal. Something is always up.
2) Always have solid entrance doors and dead bolts to your house! Hitting that door must have really hurt that guy...It barely budge an inch LMAO!

it's amazing how dogs can sense smell from far distances and know when something isn't right. in anycase, at least it didn't happen to you and hopefully next time it doesn't happen to you or your any of your neighbors. i can't stand thieves and they should be peppered sprayed (make them suffer a bit, instead of being shot) and then kicked to a bloody pulp crocop style...

Good eyes!

That kinda stuff is really unnerving when it is so close.

As the Officer said above, you did well.

Bill

Good going!

Now, did the get-away car have swirls? Lol
