Never knew I had such bad habits

Hello everyone.. I read a little on this forum for the past few days and finally hit the "register" button. Little about me.. I have been into cars my whole life and always had some sort of "fast" car.. I have owned 4 Camaros, 5 TransAms, and now a Corvette which is what brought me to this site. I cannot believe the horrible habits I had before I bought the Corvette when it comes to car care.. (and I thought I did a great job).. After reading alot on the sujects of detailing and watching countless youtube videos I realize how BAD my habits were.. Anyway, My Corvette has HORRIBLE hard water spots that have been there since who knows when as I just purchased it and they were there when I bought it. So the research that lead me to this site is because of this problem (I will probably be creating a new thread for the water spots).. I am ordering a PC 7424XP as well as an assortment of pads and products to get me started in this new world of detailing I discovered :xyxthumbs: I am sure I will ask lots of questions but as a Forum member of several other automotive forums I can assure you I actually know how to use the search button first lol.. Look foward to talking with you guys to break some old habits :dblthumb2:

Everyone started in the exact same spot.

Washing and waxing were the only things you needed to do to keep the finish of your car looking great right? HA, if we only knew from the beginning!! :laughing:

  1. Take your time
  2. Ask questions, they're free and it's the way we all learn.
  3. Don't become overwhelmed
  4. Make detailing enjoyable
  5. Set realistic goals

Basic steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax

I would also add is to try not worry too much after finding the perfect product. When it comes to some products like car soaps and waxes, there is just no one right product.

Pick something, try it, and then start deciding what you really like.

Meguiars 105 compound and the surbuff or microfiber pad is going to give you your best shot at removing the waterspots

The forum and AG showed me how much I didn't know also, so you're not alone. You're never too old or know so much you can't learn something. So, mistakes were made, learn from them, move on, and don't repeat them. A shared experience (good or bad) can brnefit others.
