Hey Autogeek,
I'm wondering if there are any tricks aside from claying the rims to remove stubborn spots. My issue is no matter how bright the rims get, there is always little black spots that remain on the wheel barrel. They are not always noticeable but after seeing some guys with perfectly pure brand new looking barrels it annoys me. Thanks!
 
That barrel is not as spotless as you think. I can see there is a thick black area that is covering that barrel with a build up or brake dust.

If you want a clean barrel remove the wheels clay them and clean them up. Most factory wheels are clear coated so there fire you can treat them like the paint on your car and polish them. Then I would suggest either using opti-coat or DP wheel coating. That will make keeping them clean easy.
 
I see you have a bmw, You might want to try to iron x the rim and see if that helps
 
I can't see anything....the fourteen wheel weights are blocking my view.
 
Haha holy cow there are like 30 wheel weights in there. You cant even see the barrel.

Iron x will do the trick most of the time. Take the wheels off if you are comfortable with it. Let the iron x dwell for a few minutes, scrub, rinse, repeat.

If you want to save yourself some money and your wheels are clearcoated, use megs wheels brightener. It shouldnt dwell for more than about a minute, and wear long gloves, long shirt, pants and protective glasses. It wont burn you if you get some on you but it can have long term health affects if used improperly on a daily basis.

Both products will work if the rims arent absolutely toast.
 
Actually not my car, it is just an example I came across on a detailers page! It's just I always see these bright spotless rims with no contamination that roll off even some few dollar car washes and it stuns me to how the inner barrel of the wheel can be cleaned to such extent. Maybe it's because I don't look as close as I do when sitting there for the time being meticulously scrubbing away at them. Yeah thanks for advice guys, I currently do use Meg's wheel brightener, great stuff.
 
Inner barrel is basically the backside of the rim, not the area between the "spokes" of the wheel.

The barrel of the BMW wheel in the picture is not clean at all.
