Never Waxing an SUV Roof again

Well, I OC'ed the roof today. Foamed the SUV first, then washed with Pinnacle rinseless and waterless. Then it started to drizzle. I kept at it, then it stopped. I dried it. Then it started again. I wiped down with ONR & dried it again. All and all until it was finally dry was like 4 hours, due to it would start to drizzle as soon as I got it dry.

Polished whole roof with Optimum Finish Polish, then did many Eraser wipe downs, then 20% IPA wipe downs. I also removed the rear window gasket and cleaned out 13 years of black crud.

I removed the sunroof wind deflector and got the swirls out of that and OptiCoated it as well.

I used the Opti Dual Pro applicator:

I also pulled all 4 mud flaps, cleaned all the old dressing off with APCs, 1Z Deep Plastic Cleaner, and Tuff Shine Tire Cleaner. Then used Eraser and applied DLux to them.

All and all I was out side all day doing this. It kept going from wanting to rain to bright sun. I ended up apply 2 coats of OC to the whole roof and sunroof glass (polished it as well).

I'll post pics of the beading of the OC after the first wash. The whole job was a lot of work, as I wiped everything down I coated with OC or DLux like 10x with IPA and Eraser and kept using new towels.

I sure feels good knowing the only thing i'll ever have to do to that roof again is wash it. As it was a real PIA. The bumpers I'll do another day, as I ended up doing all that other work and was too tired to do more.

Here is a pic of the SUV all done:

Man, I can't get over how brand-new that Pathfinder looks. Um...what are those red lines on the ground?

Thanks! When I got it , it was in average shape for a decade old car kept outside. Slowly I've been "restoring" it. I've been removing all the trim, scrubbing it a coating w/ DLux. Had PDR do any and all dents. Wheels where removed and Opticoated a year or so ago

All the glass was polished scratch free with Cerglass & CarPro glass pads. Front bumper was repainted. Whole thing is maintained with Optimum polishes.

It drizzled overnight. Here are some beading pics.

Hopefully the rain won't mess up the OC, but I think it can get wet after 1 hour.

Here is an update. OC is under snow, drive through car wash residue, & dirt. It still beads well. You can't kill this stuff once it's applied correctly.

There are no "toppers" or beading soaps on the OC.

Nice update, thanks for that. It was good to read this topic since I haven't seen it earlier.

Kind Regards.

Here is WG DGLS on the hood. Holds up better than Collinite 915 in snow, salt, & ice.

Yup. Right here.

Front bumper cover, lower rocker panels, and roof are the culprit pushing me toward coating (22PLE, PBLC, and Migliore are top contenders). I hate dealing with lower panels most, followed by roof.

I have a spare bumper cover that's being spray. I'm considering hitting it with 3M's Paint Defender Spray Film when it gets home from the body shop also.

Never had any issues with the roof of my nitro. I'm a short guy 5 foot 6 inches, I use a convertible ladder and never had any issues. My peeve is the bottom under the doors between the wheels.

Considering nobody sees the roof, it's sort of a waste IMO to spend time waxing it. Just coat it & wash it. Maybe I would feel differently if I had a Show Car Garage to work on my cars in.

What is the Nissan sporting on the vertical panels? Same thing?

This Winter my doors (especially lower half) have really taken a beating from the salty roads. Hood beads like a champ with Black Ice.

I also agree with coating the roof. The first coating I get my hands on will go directly to the roof and wheels.

Coating the roof of an SUV is a good idea on your DD. I'll keep that in mind if I ever get a truck/SUV

I have 2 of the Werner platforms. I just put the together on one side and I can walk the length of my SUV. If I do my friends excursion I pull out the old paint scaffold and my Werner folding ladder and split it and use it along the side of the excursion. I can also put it on the lowest rung to get down and to the lower panels and bumpers.
