For wax I already have big white wax and meguiars pro glaze/sealant

I need to get
backing plate
foam disks
cutting/polishing compounds. which do you recommend?

in the lake country thinpro line the white (polishing) and orange (light cutting) are usually the most commonly pads used. it would be a good start to get at least 3-6 pads of each to start and later down the line you can purchase more as you can never have enough. if you need something more aggressive you can step up to the grey or microfiber pad. keep in mind it's important to clean the pads (brush) as you work as they will get clogged with spent product...

I'm still a big fan of:

5.5"

Green Buff and Shine / Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
Blue Buff and Shine / Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
Red Buff and Shine / Meguiar's Ultimate Wax

Meguiar's 5" backing plate.

The Meguiar's d/a microfiber correction system is also a food way to keep things super simple, and efficient as well.
