Is there somewhere on this site that takes a newbie thru some of the processes of how to do it right, some of the products needed, etc. Without going thru 5000 forum questions?

Yes...one of the best ways to learn is to watch the broadcast on Thursday evenings. Otherwise no one minds you asking questions on here. You can find a lot of useful information in the posts under detailing 101.

First off I would do at least a little research. The basics get answered ALL the time, you should be able to find a lot of it very easy. Then if you need help with additional specifics post a thread. Also, more specific titles will help you get more answers.

Thanks everyone. Been doing alot of wandering around the web site and see how this works now. Need another buffer and a clay bar to start.

Preparing the finish for a sealant or wax is the best way to ensure personal satisfaction. Whether you choose to use just a paint cleaner or do a full compound & polish correction is a personal choice but I'd choose one after claying..

Always remember; the final results are largely dependent on the finish prep....

Basic car care steps in order are:

  • Wash
  • Clay
  • Paint Correction & Polish
  • Seal
  • Wax

Yep...if you want to find something on this site Bobby is the man!! Didn't take me long to learn that. lol

Bobby G has the links to all the basic information you could want without searching through bunches of posts. Use the search function for specific questions and if you can't find an answer, just post a new thread and someone will have an answer. This is the absolute best detailing forum ever. IMO

Thanks again everybody, you guys have been a great help!

Any suggestions on a beginner buffer? And what pads do I need?

In my opinion I would look at the Porter Cable starter kits. They come with an assortment of pads and some come with some product to use. If your just starting out these packages seem to be a pretty good deal. If you type Porter Cable into the search engine on here it will list them all for you. You can read whet the different packages offer and decide what is best for your needs.
